It's been 30 years since the height of British punk, bands like the Sex Pistols and the Clash are longgone, as is much of the call for punk bands in general. Now raw, underground, British punk is back.Criminal Record are a young, rebellious punk band from Wigan. Their music is loud, too loud in fact for the environmental health who shut them down midway through practice one day.
History
The band has progressed since it was formed in 2005. The founding members, Dec and Eddy brought friends in and out of the band trying to find that edge. They drafted in schoolfriend Dan on bass shortly before peforming at the school's annual variety show and this became the first proper line-up. Still the band lacked a distinctive sound, although they played pubs in Wigan as a three-piece. At this time the band practiced in an empty swimming pool with 10W amps and Argos standard guitars. Eddy even had to borrow an amp from then non-band member Luke. Soon after it was suggested that Luke would join as a rhythm guitarist.
Since then the band has played gigs in towns all over the area, an annual caravan festival and released two EPs.
--UPDATE-- MAY 08
We have released the basis of our new EP which are the three songs on the page; Fake Mates, Fade Away and Walking Home Alone. Both Luke and Eddy are in the process of writing new material and we will be looking to record at Dan's house over the summer. We will also be looking for gigs this summer and booking some gigs in the northwest area.
