About Me

My name is Dominik. I decide to follow the "Myspace-Trend" due to my great hobby: Enjoying music and writing about it as a "Musicjournalist". In the late 1990'ies I was the editor of my own fanzine called "Obscura", which was dedicated to so called "Apocalyptic Folk/Dark Folk/Neofolk", Industrial, but also usual Dark-Ambient, Gothic stuff and Black Metal. Later I was part of the writing staff of the well known german independent music magazine "Black"...Again later, I was honoured to become the new editor of the well known german "Industrial and Neofolk" magazine "Zinnober" (whose forerunner "Sigill" had a very big influence on me). Up until now I released 2 issues (no. 6 and no. 7 in the History of Zinnober)...unfortunately I didn't manage to release another issue. Problem is my own mixture of enthusiasm, chaos and perfectionism, and later also a certain lack of motivation, since the old Zinnober editor wants to start with a new magazine for which I will also write.
Besides all this I publish regularly reviews on NONPOP.DE , the biggest german webportal for "Neofolk" and other styles (in fact, I can publish everything that interests me). Nowadays I also write for ZWIELICHT MAGAZINI try to become a "specialist" in the following genres:
1. Industrial Culture in the sense of Throbbing Gristle, SPK, Monte Cazazza ...incl. the whole 80ies Tape Culture, Charming Minimal Music, Ritual Musick. (especially from Italy)
2. Black Metal: Perhaps the first/second (besides Grindcore and swedish Death Metal) really passionate music love in my life. I am only interested in bands from the 80ies, up until ca. 1996 or modern bands if they have something really unique to offer. I am also interested in Metal from "exotic" countries - from a european perspective. I really loved the unique sound of the old greek black metal bands like Necromantia, Varathron, Rotting Christ...a tremendous, very big influence!!In general, there was something GREAT in the early nineties/late 80ies black metal scene with Bands like Mystifier, Belial, Necromantia, Beherit, Barathrum, Bestial Summoning, Masacre, Hadez, Parabellum, Martyrium (Ger), Varathron, Dawnfall, Ophthalamia/Abruptum, Thorns...I really miss this unique feeling.
3. Dark Folk: Well, that is a long story and a strange subculture (inbetween experimental music and goth subculture)... I will always love the music from the so called "Family" (Current 93, Death In June, Sol Invictus...) and many others, especially from Germany (Forseti, Darkwood, Ernte). This scene, the old cosmos of magazines like Sigill, Fifth Path, The Feverish or Labels like Cthulhu or Storm or the aesthetics of "Thee Temple Ov Psychick Youth" is what I call my "subcultural home"...Let's see!
Other musical fields of interest: Experimental Music, I like musicians who build and invent their own strange instruments (like Harry Partch), pure Folk, Psychedelia, NWOBHM, Hip Hop, NDW, Punk from 70ies and early 80ies, Dub, "New Weird America", Outsider- Music, Doom, Funeral Doom, Oi, Ska, Krautrock, even some New Jazz, Reggae, Chansons...basically everything besides 08/15 pop. I also have to admit that I like more and more Hip Hop and Rap music such as Dälek or french or brazil hip hop.
Very interesting for me is also the relation Ideology/Music or the relation visual art/music.
