The Big F

The Big F were an L.A.-based band who first appeared on the Elektra label in 1988 with a self tiltled debute CD. Their music was a mixture of dark aggressive rock that played completely opposite to the glam-bands that dominated the scene at the time. 1990 proved to be great year for the Big F, with a US tour opening for Soundgarden coupled with an underground video playing on "MTV Headbangers Ball" and "120 minutes". The Big F was a "band's band", earning praise in fan magazines by many of the top rock artists of their time. With the support of local Los Angeles popular metal radio, KNAC, their music hailed to the Southern California masses. Still, they slipped through the cracks, and ended up moving to EMI/Chrysalis in 1993, where they released their second effort, "Is", and the EP "Patience Peregrine", into a world dominated by "grunge." Their distinct sound faded into the mid-90s behind the rising popularity of singer-songwriter, cookie-cutter rock and rap music trends. Faced with mounting internal friction and their EMI/Chrysalis label struggling to stay alive, the band decided it best to part ways, leaving behind a small but loyal fan base well into the new millennium.
