About Me

Eloh was born in the year 1976 in Port au Prince Haiti to a Cuban/Haitian mother and a Haitian father that he never really knew . His father left at an early age and regarded Eloh as a child that was not his . His mother seemed to be more interested in the dream of america than any child rearing process . That being said , she left for the states to be married and came back a year or so later for her son . For them America was a double edged blade . On one hand the opportunities to make a decent living and get away from the violence, death and destruction that had become their homeland was a breath of much needed fresh air , yet the feeling of being absolutely foriegn in a strange country that regarded Haitians as something close to black trash was inescapeable.First living in New York and then moving to Connecticut The culture shock was not lost on the young boy’s mind. By the time he was 5 his step father had begun beating him relentlessly . Emotional and physical abuse was a mainstay in his household. Always in love with art , Eloh would draw everything he saw . Be it in a room or outside in the sun . This became his escape from the damage around him. A place that was safe , and he could control what came in and what stayed out . Also his interest in music began to show . At first wanting to be a drummer on account of his roots , the drum was a natural part of life in Haiti . When he was very small he would sneak into the old men’s tents at night and listen to them beat patterns into the air . Speaking with their ancestors. Speaking to the gods . Speaking to the earth . The heartbeat .Around the age of six or so his mother gave him his first guitar. A no name classical with nylon strings and a deep bass tone. Finally the beatings became too much , and Eloh began to fight back . His rage and outrage galvanizing into a fist that tried to remove his step father’s face . At this time his mother began to see the effect that this situation was having on her son . A few battered women’s shelters and black eyes later . Eloh was taken away at age 9 and placed into state custody . moving from group home to group home for about 7 or so years . These were the dark times , If times could get any darker . Music seemed the only thing that could get him thru . So he began writing songs on his guitar . Sometimes simple 3 chord progressions , and at other times epic emotional dramas that most people would not believe he composed or could even play for that matter. His ear was tuned for any music that could move people or himself . Digging in the crates and finding artists like Duran Duran , Tom Waits , Testament and Metallica . He would listen for hours never sleeping without his walkman on . Delving deeper into music sometimes forgetting where he was .By the time he was 17 He emancipated himself from state custody . Only to return home and find that he was behind in everything . From school to social interaction with other people in his age range . Once again he buried himself deeper into his art . Now playing electric guitar and highly influenced by mind altering drugs and the changing music scene of the early 90’s . Once a desciple of heavy metal the so called grunge era seemed more his speed . It opened everything up . Bands like Snapcase and Fugazi . Bands like Prong and Nine inch nails . bands like soundgarden and alice in chains made him look at the guitar in a different light . Smashing the rules into tiny bits .Caught in an endless circle of drug dealing and dead end jobs with no inspiration to stay in school , he dropped out in the middle of 12th grade and went to job corps hping to learn a trade, and make something of himself. That was cut short , the year he attended race riots raged on the Chikopee Massachusetts campus . Most of the students were dismissed .At 19 he decided to leave Connecticut and his demons behind for the bright lights of Philadelphia . Hard times , No money and a few bad winters , yet this was to be the place that ruled his heart . Meeting and collaborating with Hip hop artsist such as Swee-kak , Uli blanco , Pred orator , Malice and countless others . He got a formal lesson in the theory and application of wordplay . Making memorable mixtapes with the likes of Mingswine in the group Beef and Swine . Yet he could never find a band that he thought would work in the way he wanted to make his form of rock , with freedom to take from every type of music and draw all those influences into something that made sense to the growing number of restless 20 somethings that he constantly came in contact with .The only outlet was hip hop . so that became his every form . with surprising results he inlfuenced a generation of music lovers to expand .Now finding his voice and slowly but surley adapting his styles to on another , Eloh began the process of making his own recordings . learning on Cubase and reason to come from an analog 4 track method to linear recording in a digital space . The result was his first solo full length cd entitled "A night on patmos (we will see) . a stark collection of emotional and fluid pieces , That stirred a bit of controversy due to the album’s cover that depicted Eloh with a pistol in his mouth. Some say he was quite suicidal thru the making of the cd . A few friends had passed away and It was a very dark time for the artist .Seven albums . Tons of court dates and a few side project groups later , such as Trifecta that he founded with co worker Royce folks in virginia 2006 . Where he mainly focused on guitar duties and production , and Torus in 2006 - 2007 in Conecticut handling singing duties and and production , he is back on the solo note . Back in New york and hungry as everWith a honed songwriting style that has been called "Original" and "Honest" . He seems to have found himself . Still Playing all his instruments , From drum programming to bass to guitars keys and anything else he see’s fit to throw in the mix such as samples and sounds to make a layered and full listening experience . Not to mention the voice that seems to sway and bend to fit with everything he sings over . The man is still not in his prime . This is the sound of becoming . This is the sound of a man with many names . The dark angel . This is the sound of all of our hearts , our pain our joy our everyday . This is the sound of the underground. This is the sound of Eloh .
