I'm interested in living an intentional life of passion and possibility and being the best mother I can be to my extraordinary daughter, Angelina Du Soleil, AS WELL AS, The dancefloor!, Mischief, Mayhem, Wit, Wisdom, The free gift with purchase, Peace, Prosperity, Poverty, Spirit, Self, String cheese theory, Quantum physics, Quality time, Performing, People, Experimental theater, Music, Art (mama loves DADA!), Long distance running (2004 LA Marathon finisher, baby!), Mothering, Goddessing, Praying, Meditating, Nurturing the next generation, Co-creating consciously, Community, Burningman, Yummy food, Good incense, Exotic treats (mango with sticky rice, YUM!), Occassionally overdoing it and good friends to share it all with!
Who I'd REALLY like to meet is Jesus and have a conversation with him about soccer fans. It's mindblowing what people will do when they think they are morally right. And for some, that apparently hinges on whether their team wins or loses. Until then, I'm mostly here to keep in touch with family, friends, meet cool people and maybe even learn something new. But I'm not here to win any popularity contests. I don't care about being your "BFF", I've already got that covered. If you don't like something I say, just honor my constitutional right to free speech and keep on steppin'. I promise to return the favor. "Free to be you and me" is my motto. I'd also like to meet Fellow truth seekers, Punk rock moms, Artists, Circus freaks, DJs, Musicians, Burningman people, Dancefloor dervishes, and Conscious co-creators who are into learning, grOH!wing, improving the state of our planet and transforming the socio-political paradigm that impacts it, all while looking fabulous and having a darn good time. NOW, for who I DON'T want to meet: NO Phishers, hackers or friend harvesters (when I meet one of you in person, be afraid), NO Chicks broadcasting their near-naked body parts in a tasteless manner (there's nothing sexy about self-degradation, my lovelies. Don't let our male-dominated society convince you otherwise. Plus, you might want to consider the message you are sending to all your young, impressionable myspace little sisters whose only role models might be you and me), NO Dudes (puleeez!), NO MLM solicitors/Network marketing people (how you changed your life and gained financial freedom is your business), NO Real estate geniuses (I've got my own key to success, thank you very much). I'm NOT here for any kind of gain other than good music and great friendships so don't waste my time or yours. I have a delete button and I know how to use it! And since you're here, enjoy the prophetic video below of the classic that sparked many hearts and minds over thirty years ago, "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" by Gil Scott-Heron, THE Father of Rap. He's right, brothers and sisters, "the revolution will not be televised, but it will put you in the driver's seat". Just remember to hit the gas when you see po-po's lights come on in your rear-view mirror. So hold on to your sense of humor and let's be friends, 'kay? Cheers! ;^D
I'm bummed that we lost three great men of soul in '06. Rick James ("Superfreak" was about me); Billy Preston (often referred to as the '5th Beatle', Billy wrote "Get Back", one of the Beatle's biggest hits and played keys on many of their tracks); and The Godfather himself, James Brown (James hired Bootsy Collins at the age of 16! to be his bass player where his naturally funky skills were honed. Bootsy went on to work with George Clinton and we know the rest of the story). They influenced contemporary music in infinite ways most of us are unaware of. Mozart rocks! Brahms, Breakbeats, Bob Marley, Billy Holiday and Bob Dylan might all be in my CD player at the same time. The great ladies of Jazz (Billy, Ella, Nina, Dinah...) always amaze me. Anything George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic will get me on the dancefloor. "Soft and Wet", Prince's first single still takes me right back to 6th grade finger snappin', Kate Bush is my all-time female musician hero and Nina Simone's story inspires me endlessly. I love reggae, particularly Bob's, but not because I am a native of Jamaica. I love reggae becaue it is always positive and it speaks to that innermost part of us that KNOWS we are all connected, we are all one and ONE is all there is, all there was, and all there ever will be.
I Love Sydney Lumet's "The Pawn Broker" (1958) because that was Quincey Jones's big break; his first opportunity to write the musical score for a film. "It's a Wonderful Life" always makes me cry. I'd love to play Mrs. Robinson in a remake of "The Graduate" with Jake Gylenhall, grrrr. "She's Gotta Have It", Spike Lee's first film is still my fave. Anything by Stanley Kubrick gets my vote, except maybe his last film before he passed (you are missed, Stan!), Fellini's "Satyricon" is visually amazing, wow!
I'm not a huge fan of t.v. but I like the idea behind the television series "Heroes". We are all superheroes with our own special powers which, if used properly, selflessly, can in ways beyond our knowing, impact and indeed, save the world. If you were a superhero, what would your special power(s) be and how would you use it to save/change the world?
From the book "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle:"The time-bound mode of consciousness is deeply embedded in the human psyche. But what we are doing here is part of a profound transformation that is taking place in the collective consciousness of the planet and beyond: the awakening of consciousness from the dream of matter, form, and separation. The ending of time. We are breaking mind patterns that have dominated human life for eons. Mind patterns that have created unimaginable suffering on a vast scale. I am not using the word evil. It is more helpful to call it unconsciousness or insanity."
My heroes are everyone who survived hurricane Katrina, lost everything, was thrust into an uncaring world, and still found the courage and strength to start over and not lose their capacity to love and hope for a better tomorrow. Nearly two years later we hear nothing about the little old ladies who had nothing, and no one, and said goobye to the world in quiet solitude as they committed suicide. We hear about rehab-hopping celebrities instead. Let us not forget those who are STILL in need and include them in our prayers and meditations.
