I am here for Friends

About Me

I was driving tour buses in Alaska, but, fortunately, I finally got something besides a rejection letter in response to one of my fellowship applications. (I guess I had to actually graduate from school and have the piece of paper before anyone would give me the time of day, even though I was technically done). I will be working as an injury epidemiology fellow through the CDC/CSTE, at the Oregon Department of Human Services. So basically, for the next two years, violent deaths will be my life! AWESOME!!!!What's next, I don't know. Maybe driving again. Maybe working abroad with infectious diseases! Overall, I just want to live my life to the fullest, see and enjoy as much as possible, and not get stuck doing something I hate. Maybe along the way I can do something meaningful. I don't really want to grow up, but I want something more than what I've found at the bar (even though it's one of my favorite places). I have awful luck, but somehow I always seem to survive the things I get myself into. I've traveled in five of the seven continents, and hope to make it to at least one more before I'm thirty. I try to live simply cuz I just can't stand excess.

My Interests

Music, Movies, Books, Travel, Science, etc. I like having good conversations with smart, interesting, witty people. I like low-brow humor, and people who are respectful but not so politically correct. Anyone who can make me laugh.

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who doesn't bring any more drama into my life. I love science geeks. People who appreciate the simple things in life. People who want to do something with their lives, anything! really! No more professional bus drivers!!!!!!! I swear, when they're talking to me sometimes I want to shoot myself! I don't care about your trucking days or what new amazing thing you did to your coach, blah blah blah....God! The ego of some of these old guys! --update-- YEAH!!!!!!!!!! No more bus driving (at least for now). Unless I happen to get a job driving in Anarctica. There's a long waiting list, but if I apply now, a spot may open up by the time I finish up my epidemiology fellowship.

Music:

Just about anything but new country, easy-listening jazz, and boring modern rock. Of course, I have a special place in my heart for early punk rock (especially the '77 era), and I love classic country, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins and Hank Williams Sr., etc.

Movies:

Stand by Me, Lost Highway, Blue Velvet, Breakfast Club, Beetlejuice, the X-Men movies... I don't know, I can't think of much right now. As those who know me best know, I'll watch just about any ol' crap.

Television:

I love bad tv, most shows I won't admit to here; however, there's a lot of crap on tv nowadays that even I won't watch. I don't have cable, but I love the Sopranos, Six Feet Under and Deadwood.

Books:

Almost anything by Salman Rushdie (but I didn't really like 'The Ground Beneath her Feet') I went to see him read from his new book, "Shalimar the Clown" last fall, and he's just brilliant and hilarious! Cider House Rules, and most of John Irving's books I don't know, I'll read just about anything, once I start a book I have to finish it.

Heroes:

Hmmm.....maybe Paul Farmer. I think Salman Rushdie is funny and brilliant, but overall, I guess I don't really believe in heroes.

My Blog

OK, so maybe bus driving wasn't so bad.........

now that i'm working in a crappy, grey, spartan, flourescent bulb lit, no natural light gettin', sit on my ass wastin' time all day cubicle.  I'm working as an applied epidemiology fellow in...

Oh my god! A whole trucker family!

So, I was already pissed off because I was on the tour from hell (money doesn't buy class, assholes!), I had an hour of peace away from the group to service my coach, and I had a stowaway!  Some ...
