About 'Love, Diva Style'
I loved this project. It was produced for a class in video field production and I wasnt sure going into it if I could pull it off. It wasnt until the day before the second cut was due that it started to come together. The most difficult part of this project was trying to find a way to integrate the video art homage pieces with the monolog. Im really glad I made the decision to make this a two channel video as it simply would not have worked single channel. Watching the separate channels independently shows just how much they rely on each other (Channel A the most).
The audio especially sounds bad when the channels are viewed separately. Channel A (mainly non-monolog) has a lot of room noises. I have an exceptionally loud furnace and water heater and they make their presence known when ever I used anything other than the wireless mic. However, for the homage footage, I rather liked having the extra noise as it is reminded me a lot of the original videos.
This piece is peoperly viewed on two separate sceen, placed two feet apart and at a 90 degree angle to each other (45 degrees to the viewer). For the purposes of web viewing I have placed both chanels on one screen, but it does lose a lot in doing so.
About 'Change: Reflection'
On the surface, this six video series presents itself as a "Day in the Life," from eating and washing, to sleeping and the dream state. The audio represents the conscious and unconscious inner monolog on the meaning of mundane acts, as well as the inner fears, hopes and cultural baggage.
This series is my mediation on personal change. I will be getting married this year to someone I do not currently live with. Having not lived with a lover for over ten years, and having lived with no other humans for a year and a half, this will be a huge change for me.
The two videos from the series shown here are 'Je dois me refléter', the first of the series and 'Dream (Fear)', the last (addition videos are on my website). In 'Je dois me refléter', the video portion shows a woman brushing her hair in the mirror. The mirror image of woman tries on hats. The audio is taken from a search in Google for the phrase I need to reflect and descriptive text in search results where that phrase appears. This video sets the stage for the series being about different types of reflection, especially reflections on the change from a one to two person household.
'Dream (Fear)' is a take on anxiety dreams. Questioning/interrogation. The purpose of interrogation is never made clear. The audio in the DVD version is in surround sound to indicate movement of the unseen speaker. This is the only one of the series where the speaker is a character in the video.
