NEW YORK, NY – June 6 – Following the success of several other mash-up projects, mixtape heavyweights Tapemasters Inc are releasing, quite possibly their most important mash-up offering yet. Twins is a tribute dedicated to Puerto Rican music legends Big Pun and Hector Lavoe. Produced by AC and Popular B, the mash-up concept revolves around Big Pun’s rap vocals set to beats that contain samples of classic salsa songs by Hector Lavoe.
The timing for this unlikely dual tribute could not be more perfect. “Twins†will make its debut at the New York City Puerto Rican Day parade, which will make its way up 5th avenue in Manhattan on Sunday July 11th. This year the parade has been dedicated to the musical legacy of Hector Lavoe. As if that wasn’t enough, the Grand Marshall of this year’s parade will be Marc Anthony, who will star as Lavoe in October’s “El Cantanteâ€, a movie chronicling the life of the salsa legend.
The Tapemasters Inc team, including producers AC and Popular B, will be taking it to the streets during the parade, promoting the release of Twins. This break from the tradition of releasing a mixtape straight to stores and websites is meant as a way to directly reach the core audience.
“Latino culture is blowing up in America and the Puerto Rican Day Parade is a celebration of that†says AC, a Puerto Rican rapper/producer from Staten Island. “It was time for someone to pay tribute to our heroes.â€
