One word to describe Christians taste and style of music:
eclectic.
He has been influenced musically by his surroundings for all of his
26 years of life. His father introduced him to music at a very early age.
His
father Jose who played in a band in his younger days taught Christian how to
play the congas and master them with the greatest of ease. His older brother
Edwin was infatuated with freestyle and house.
India, Marc Anthony, Lil Louie
Vega, etc. (yes people, India and Marc Anthony did house music once upon a time
ago). So it would only seem natural that his taste in music was molded by the
cornucopia of sound that was around him.
Platano (Christians nick name) could talk to you about Tito Puente or
Mongo Santa Maria, the same way he could about The Jungle Brothers, Soho and
The Furious Five. His love for music began to even further when he was
introduced to his first set of turntables. He soon connected with a collective of
DJs known as the TBC crew and did everything from house parties to strip
clubs. Still being a neophyte to turntables, he was learning his craft along
the way. Sometimes people that he did parties for would ask him to make
instrumental cds for them so that they could record their demos on. It seemed
like more and more people would ask him for the same thing, so he decided that
maybe he should start making his own beats. With a DR-Rhythm that he bought at
a garage sale, he started cranking out beats and soon found that his love for
producing equaled that of him spinning at parties.
In 96, one of his long time high school friends A.C
introduced Christian to a fellow producer who had his roots in hip-hop. Nazrul
Nudge Hussein a.k.a
"The Kick Drum Kid", would subconsciously help Christian
develop his own unique sound in the years to come. The years passed and his
love for music became more than a hobby; He knew that music was going to pay
his rent and take care for his family in the years to come. Sudden drastic
changes in his life caused Christian to put some of his plans on hold. He
switched from Reserve to Active Duty in the United States Army. He spent the
next 5 years on and off traveling back and forth between Europe and the U.S to
help keep his dream alive. He stayed busy while in Europe by spinning at such clubs as
The
Loft House, The Living
Monza , (Frankfurt)
and
Club Caribe
(Wiesbaden) to name a few .
His time
away from the U.S music scene was not spent in vain though. His music repertoire
was further expanded by the sonic explosion that was taken place all around
him.
The cornucopia of Latin House from Spain, Garage (2 step) music from the
U.K, and the plethora of music styles from across the continent further helped
him to define his unique sound and style.Christian came back to the U.S in 2001, where he hooked up
with long time friend, Cito (one half of the dynamic duo known as Tumba La Casa entertainment) (they
both met through Christians ex , while doing a sweet 16 in 97 ). Ever since that day, the seed was
planted and it slowly began to grow into what it is today. Tumba La Casa
entertainment. His style of music can best be described as conservative,
grown and sexy, ethic and eclectic.
He has the imagination of Pharell Williams
and Chad Hugo, the complex compositions of the Masters at Work Crew, mainly
Little Louie Vega and Kenny Dope Gonzalez. (Think Nuyorican Soul 97,
Mawtilus) These are but a few of his inspirations when it comes to producing.
(Traces of their inspiration can be found in such tracks as Trapped In The
Zone and a special house tribute to Jay-Z and his smash hit Feelin it).So
to all those that doubt him, look out. Shoot for the moon, and you'll be among
stars. If that is the case, then this star is going to shine brightly.
