Music, books, writing, lay philosophy. A GOOD BLOG, done by The Petulant Tristan himself: http://www.petulantrumble.blogspot.com/
All of my old friends from Athens, GA. Jerry Lee Lewis, Diamanda Galas, a lot of dead people whom I would like to see (Henry Miller) or meet again (Nikki Sudden, Ralf R. Nicolai, Laura Fucking Carter, my grandfather, to name a few).
Everything from Diamanda Galas to REM. Munly, 16 Horsepower, Kristin Hersh (Throwing Muses moreso), Phoenix, Melted Men, Vic Chestnutt, Bridget Fontaine, Bar-B-Cue Killers, Jack O'Nuts, Nikki Sudden, Jacobites... I run the gamut. Lots of defunct local Athens/Atlanta bands, etc. Munich is not very conducive to creative bands, it seems.
Love the old Hal Hartley films, Ingmar Bergman. Hate German cinema in general with a few exceptions.
Either very bad TV (as in sitcoms -- here, American ones dubbed...) or very serious documentaries (the Germans are good at those!). LOVE "Weeds" -- I am hooked on that and can't wait for the third season.
Anything by Henry Miller. Love (and wrote Master's Thesis on) Heiner Müller. Baudelaire to Buckowski, Jeffrey Eugenides, Flannery O Connor, Ann Marie Macdonald, Dorothy Parker, Judith Hermann, Sylvia Plath, John Irving. And more that I can't think of!
Respect to anyone with talent, new ideas, and drive. As I writer, I envy musicians! Heroes, though? Henry Miller. Ralf R. Nicolai. Nikki Sudden. Laura Fucking Carter. I can't think of any living heroes except for Jerry Lee. Wait, why are all my heroes (with one exception) men???
