The story starts in 2002 with Wes VanAntwerp, his cousin Evan, and Nathan Rudd starting a band called All After. They started writing songs while looking for a drummer, Chase Figgins. The four-piece band recorded an independent EP with Matthew Clay of Freakin Records and began playing shows around Southeast Iowa. Quickly selling out of their EPs, eventually the band went on an extended hiatus and both Wes VanAntwerp and Nathan Rudd spent some time in the Matthew Clay band. In 2005, Wes decided to start a band again with Evan, including new drummer Tate Avery, and the band solidified their line-up as North to the Future.
The rejuvenated and reinvented trio decided to get on board and joined forces with one of the fastest growing indie labels around, Freakin Records, home to Matthew Clay, A Well Dressed Man, and others. This partnership allowed the band to do what they wanted and how they wanted with a record company that was behind them 100%.
Their new CD hits the streets in May 2007. The first single, What you want, manages to be both a vitriolic stomp over the corpse of their former record company experiences, as well as an anthem for rebellion against the norm, the bosses, the nagging partners, and the screaming landlords of our day-to-day existence. Soaring melodically at times, then rapidly descending into lyrical despair not unlike a Roger Waters nightmare, their new CD shows North to the Future at its brightest and best.
North to the Future will now embark upon an extended bout of roadwork behind their new record. But don’t expect the shows to be carbon copies of the album; more than ever NTTF is bringing their ultra-frenetic approach to their live performances.
