About Me

With a dedication to musical excellence, Solstice Coil is a band that's always under an ongoing transformation. Traveling smoothly between the boundaries of emotional expression and calculated composition, their music is a balanced hybrid of alternative and progressive rock. Combining wide range dramatic vocals with solid guitar riffs alongside multi-layered arrangements and sophisticated rhythms, Solstice Coil's commitment is to inventive quality songwriting by constantly discovering ways to fuse different and unanticipated musical influences together.
Formed at the dawn of 2001 by the songwriting team of Shir Deutch and Opher Vishnia, along with keyboardist / producer Shai Yallin, Solstice Coil first broke into the consciousness of the Israeli music scene by touring the country as a Radiohead and Muse cover band, working with various bass players and drummer Uri Goldberg, while perfecting their own material behind the scenes.
After four years of activity, "A Prescription for Paper Cuts" was born. A complete artistic achievement, portraying the band's uncompromising vision. The album was released on the 21st of September and has since then received dozens of great reviews both locally and internationally. It was named album of the month on German web site "Babyblaue" and the Brazilian internet zine "Progressive Rock & Progressive Metal" on December 2005. Photosensitivity, the opening track of the album, participated in the progressive rock contest of Garageband and managed to climb up to the Top 5. Shir was interviewed by Jean-Luc Smets for the Belgian music magazine, "Prog Resiste", and consequently, the band was invited to perform at the prestigious "Spirit of 66' concert hall in Belgium, as a part of prog resiste's festival.
Following the success of their Belgium tour, Solstice Coil returned home to start work on their second album, yet untitled.
