The Broken Lyre – the band that has been taking Southern Ontario by storm. Drawing influence from Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles, The Strokes and The Verve, The Broken Lyre has managed to create a sound all of their own. The group presents it in a way that pleases your ears and makes you want to hit the dance floor.In the summer of 2005, three little grade 8 students who wanted to make music joined together to form a band at first called “The Ronky Donkeys”, later to be changed to “The Broken Lyre”. The band started playing weekly shows at Beam Me Up Scotties, a bar in the north end of Niagara Falls. These shows consisted of three songs every week and no money but the band was building stage presence and improving their over-all sound quality. When these three lads moved on to highschool in grade 9, they decided that they would enter the school Battle of The Bands Competition. The Broken Lyre won the competition, being the first grade 9 band to win. They then moved on to the city-wide competition where they were victorious, once again. After winning city-wide battle of the bands, they went into the studio to record some songs, one of which would be played on 105.1 The River, a radio station based in Niagara Falls. The next year The Broken Lyre won city-wide battle of the bands again and went back into the studio to record even more songs which resulted in another song being played on the radio.In October 2007, bassist Daniel Multari decided he no longer wanted to play music. Singer, Matt Taylor and drummer, Mark Vaiana knew that they could not let the band go. They had to get back on their feet as quick as possible so they recruited Nick Haberer, a local multi-talented musician, as their new bassist. They also recruited guitarist, Nick Marchio as the fourth member of the band.Soon after, The Broken Lyre was nominated for “Best Original Band of The Year” at the Niagara Music Awards. They were up against Oliver Black and The Street Pharmacy. The band emerged victorious and felt greatly appreciated and honoured to win such an award.With a boost of confidence, the band went on to win city-wide Battle of The Bands for the third time in a row, setting a new record for most consecutive wins. The Broken Lyre frequently works with singer/songwriter Paul Gigliotti of the group WAVE aswell as records in his studio. Paul has produced three of The Broken Lyre's tracks, two of which have landed radio airplay. The song “Better Leave” has been added to 105.1 The River's playlist and is now on rotation, being played 4 to 6 times a day.The Broken Lyre is now preparing to head out on their very first tour where they will stop in Toronto, Sherbrooke, Montreal and Quebec City. The Broken Lyre has barely begun to scratch the surface of their unstoppable artistic potential.
