Cal P (King of tha Clem) Tommy 2 Gunz Mac DoggCal P can recall the precise moment he fell in love with rap. Listening to local rapper freestyle on the corner in 1989, this singular event sparked the birth of his calling. Born Calvin D. Peoples in the Detroit, Michigan area, his musical roots started in the church. “My mother is a gospel singer and has sung to me since birth—it’s as if she has angels on her tonsils.” Wanting to duplicate what was instilled in him, Cal P was drawn to the rap game. “I could never do what my mother does. And I don’t want to. Rap has my heart and I got to follow my heart.”Life has dealt this young MC countless hardships, but he has persevered. “Struggle is what I know. Determination is how I overcome.” His unique style of rap makes him a standout among his peers.
