Southern Comfort Animal Rescue & Sanctuary Inc. (SCARS)

About Me

An all volunteer, foster organization currently seeking our 501(c)3. "There is something beautiful about scars of any nature. A scar means the hurt is over, the wounds are closed and have healed, and the pain done with."The City of Savannah ZONING Department has secured a judgement against Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. Judge Kevin Street released his findings on Friday April 28th. While commending the work and practices of our rescue, the judge ruled in favor of Zoning, which testified there is NO residential area of the city approved for foster home rescues for more than three dogs - rescue or private citizen. The case originated with one neighbor who testified he simply does not like dogs. The judge gave us only 48 hours on a weekend to relocate all but three dogs from our main foster home. The animals are all safely boarded at Southside Animal Hospital in Savannah until we can relocate our home base. Southside Vet is accepting the many gracious contributions from citizens and supporters to help offset the boarding expenses of our rescues. 912-925-7925 The Savannah Zoning Department stated their 'victory' in this case will 'set the tone' enabling them to seek out any homes with more than 3 dogs and remove the "excess" to the pound. Since we value compassion more than we value property, SCAR , Inc is in the process of relocating and relicensing in another county. So keep us in your 'favorites' file and check back soon! Meanwhile we still have adoptable animals and assist with courtesy adoptions for relocating families, animals abandoned at vets & special cases. So please look at "Our Adoptable Pet List" in the link above and read below about our current efforts! There are still many animals who deserve another chance. SCAR, Inc. remains true to our mission: Rescuing homeless, abused and neglected animals, providing care and rehabilitiation to match them with new homes for life. For more information on the case or how you can help, please email SCAR President Terry Wolf at [email protected] . All interested adopters must complete an application before meeting with pets as some must be transported from other counties..thank you!

AMOS AND ANDY
Notes: Amos and Andy were orphaned when their owner took his own life. They had been well cared for, happy bonded boys all their lives until that point. With no family to take them, they ended up at a high kill Animal Control. Amos & Andy are exceptionally gentle, healthy, active adults, neutered, get along with other dogs, children & toddlers. They are housebroken, love access to outdoors, but more than anything, they enjoy being inside near their humans. They are currently staying in a loving home, where they are getting extra TLC! For application inquiry - please email [email protected] or [email protected] ([email protected])This pet is up to date with routine shots. This pet is already house trained. Abby
Notes: Abby is a young, very gentle girl who is a special needs pet - only insomuch as we will want her to be adopted as an indoor cat. Abby's back leg causes her lmiited mobility - probably from healing incorrectly after an old accident. However she uses it, without pain and there's no need for amputation, just precautions for her being susceptible to outdoors. She was recently recovered after having been dumped in the deep woods - a place that can be very frightening for an animal who has a disadvantage if fending for herself! In spite of it all, she is a gorgeous, very kitty! She is up to date on all shots and feline leukemia negative! For Adoption application or to meet Abby, call Gussie at 912-233-6318 or email [email protected] This pet is up to date with routine shots. This pet has been altered.

BUSTER
Notes: Buster is back with us...The person who adopted found out that he was severly allegric, so he is back up for adoption :( Please contact Charity at [email protected] for an adoption application.

BUTTONS
Notes: Buttons was ADOPTED!!!!

I'd like to meet:

BESSIE
Notes: Bessie is everyone's special girl! A sweet, gentle adult, she enjoyes a quiet lifestyle of just being near her humans. Bessie was pulled from a high kill shelter, where we all knew she deserved so much more than a final walk to the gas chamber. Now she loves to go for car rides, knows how to sit and shake and she loves her raw hide chewies! She is an older girl, UTD on all her shots. Spay to be scheduled. For adoption inquiry or to meet Bessie, contact Michelle at [email protected] or call 912-271-4389.This pet is up to date with routine shots. This pet is already house trained.

Notes: Buddy is a boxer mix, found as a stray and left at our vet's office - hoping for the best. Of course we have the best vets! So Buddy has been neutered, is heartworm negative and up to date on all his shots! He seemed a little worried at first - not knowing what life had in store for him next - but as you can tell by the photos that he soon realized he's among friends, is safe and can play to his heart's content! He loves other dogs, plays very well and is very gentle with humans - adults and kids! He is estimated to be about 12 - 18 months. For adoption - please call SOUTHSIDE HOSPITAL FOR ANIMALS in Savannah GA 912-925-7925.This pet is up to date with routine shots. This pet has been altered.

BUDDY
Notes: Mr. Buddy is a senior pure bred lemon Beagle who was taken into rescue when his former owners decided to move on with their lives and leave him behind. Buddy is a delightful fella who likes to travel (he even packs himself in a suitcase ready to go!) sleeps with the tip of his tongue sticking out, and he loves to just site beside someone quietly. He still is playful - but just for short bursts - then he's back to watching the world go by! He loves all people, children, adults and dogs and cats! He is fully vetted and healthy! Please email Terry at [email protected] or for adoption application. This pet is up to date with routine shots. This pet is already house trained. This pet has been altered.

EMMA
Notes: Emma is a sweetheart inspite of what happened to her. When she was found she was pregnant and had been shot in the head with an arrow! The horrible arrow was removed and she survived with no neurological damage. She's gave birth to four precious pups - 2 males, 2 females (born first week of May, 2006) and Emma is a tender, gentle mother. Emma will be spayed before adoption. Both she and her pups will be fully vaccinated and ready for loving homes in coming weeks! To inquire about adopting Emma or one of her babies, or to offer assistance to help with her veterinary costs, please contact Lori at [email protected] or call 843-227-1281 or Charity at [email protected]

ETHEL
Notes: Ethel is a gentle, sweet, lively and curious young gal that just loves everyone! A happy little tail-wagger! Ethel is a beagle mix that we found at a high kill gas chamber. She and her newborn puppies had very little time - but she won our hearts - and their freedom! She is currently under the loving, expert care of Southside Hospital for Animals where she and her last pup, Lucy, are boarded. She is being treated for heartworms - as most south Georgia rescues are - and our vets say she will make a full recovery! She will be spayed in coming weeks. (May 2006). Ethel is an exceptional girl - having won the hearts of all the veterinary staff and everyone who meets her. She gets along with other dogs - even tolerating her 4 month old pup who stills crawls all over her every few minutes. As most beagle mixes she is extremely sociable and intelligent, calm and loving. Excellent with children and adores family time. This is a girl that should be considered as a member of the family. In exchange, you'll get a trusted, devoted addition to your family! For adoption application contact Terry at [email protected] pet is up to date with routine shots. This pet is already house trained.

HERCULES
Notes: Hercules is a wonderful, playful, hardy boy - but NOT the dog for the faint hearted! THIS BOY LOVES TO PLAY! Tug of war is one of his favorites! As most Bully breeds, Hercules plays with his mouth -often causing people to mistakenly think a bite is soon to follow. However Hercules has been temperament tested excessively by vets. He is simply a happy, comical big baby who loves to smile and share lots of affection! He is neutered, UTD on all shots, housetrained and an excellent candidate for training. As is, he is one of the happiest, lovable big boys we've ever offered in adoption! Hercules is available for adoption to the right home! For Adoption Inquiries, Application or to meet Hercules - please email Terry at [email protected] or Charity at [email protected] This pet is up to date with routine shots. This pet is already house trained. This pet has been altered.

JOSIE
Notes: Little Miss Josie: ADOPTED!!

LUCY
Notes: Lucy is a sweet, lively and curious pup, about 4 months old that just loves everyone! She and her mother see Ethel in our Adoptable Pets) came to us from a high kill shelter as a newborn pup. Of course she won our hearts with those big eyes! Lucy loves other dogs, and every person, adult or child that she sees! We're not sure about her mix - although her mom is definitely a beagle mix, we expect Lucy to grow to be a much larger dog. Judging from her happy personality now - you'll get lots of dog and lots of love! She is currently under the loving, expert care of Southside Hospital for Animals in Savannah where she will be spayed in coming weeks. She is currently living in a great foster envirnoment, but is she taking applications for a new furever home. For adoption application contact Terry at [email protected] or Charity at [email protected] pet is up to date with routine shots.

MISSY
Notes: Missy is a dainty little gal, weighing in at only 15 pounds. She is about 6 years old - but that leaves many years for a small beagle mix like Missy! We've not heard her bark - not even ONCE - which is a rare trait for most beagle mixes! Missy would rather win you over with her gentle shyness. She will gently place her tiny paws on you until you tell her it's ok, then she will crawl into your lap for all the TLC you can handle! Missy was rescued from a gas chamber facility, and as most 'pound hounds' she had heartworms. However she is currently being treated and is doing very well, with full recovery just weeks away. She will be spayed after completing HW treatment. (May 2006) Missy is housebroken, crate trained and gets along fine with other non-dominant dogs. She has no problems with cats. This little angel deserves all the love and attention she can get, as she likely never had consistent love before being rescued. If you would like Missy to fill your heart and your lap, please contact us for an adoption application. To inquiry about Missy, contact Lori at [email protected] or call 843-227-1281This pet is up to date with routine shots. This pet is already house trained

SMOKIE
Notes: Smokie is a beautiful playful girl. She is a snuggler and wants her own mommy to love. She gets along well with other animals and is house-trained. She is an inside cat and prefers to be around people. Smokie loves having her tummy rubbed and has a loud happy purr. Please give this loving kitty a home and her own family. She was abandoned at the Liberty County Animal Control in Hinesville, GA where the military deployment of the 3rd Infantry Division has left so many pets homeless and the shelter overcrowded. They are in a temporary foster home with 5 other cats and are ready for adoption into their own home. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . SUNSHINE
Notes: Can you look past these signs of neglect and see Sunshine's beauty? This darling year old Collie mix has been treated and is recovering from demodex . She is non-contagious and responding very well! Sunshine came to us not only with this very treatable condition from neglect, but she also has a back hip limp - likely caused by being hit by a car. She was found in a ditch, where she had survived for months. Emotionally, Sunshine is true to her name. She is exceptional with her love and gratitude. Given a little time - which is the only thing so many of our rescues need - Sunshine will soon be physically healed, a gorgeous striking animal and the darling of some lucky human's life! (Spay will be performed before adoption) For adoption inquires or information, email Lori at [email protected] pet is up to date with routine shots. This pet is already house trained.

GIGI
Notes:ADOPTED!

GYPSIE
Notes: Gypsie (Mama) and her babies were found under a building. The babies have been adopted and now she is in need of a foster home. This foster is overloaded and needs immediate help. Gypsie is completely house trained. She loves other dogs and plays well with them. She is fearful of strangers but has made progress while in foster care. She just needs some TLC. Gypsie will be spayed for adoption. Please call Pam at 912-369-3418 or e-mail me at [email protected] This pet is up to date with routine shots. This pet is already house trained

LUCY
Notes: Lucy is the dog our vet's staff says is the sweetest girl they've ever met! She was 'discarded' after her former owners decided they wanted her puppies, but treating her hookworms was not worth the effort. Small price to pay for such an incredibly gentle loving girl! Lucy is fine now - no problems, nourished properly and has been spayed. She still has that post puppy sag - but she will soon exercise that off! She is about 2 years old our vets estimate. She is a lover - give hugs, wrinkles her nose when smiling at you, plays well with other dogs - large and small. This is not a girl that will be adopted to anyone who wants a tough dog - she deserves a tender home with lots of love. For adoption inquires - call Southside Animal Hospital in Savannah GA 912-925-7925This pet is up to date with routine shots. This pet is already house trained. This pet has been altered.

MELANIE
Notes: Melanie was found June 1, under the watermelon bins of a Hinesville GA Walmart - a baby at only 6-8 weeks old! She was covered in ants and fleas and scared to death. After being cleaned up and covered in TLC she has turned out to be a beautiful kitten. She is still a little scared but who wouldn't be after her ordeal! She deserves a special home that will give her lots of love and show her that she will not be hurt or abandoned! She has been treated with advantage, wormed and will be , vaccinated & spayed when old enough! For adoption inquiry or to see Melanie - call Michelle at 912-271-4389 or email [email protected]
