About Me

Hi. I'm Aart.

I'd like to have more on my site here, but with all the website building, bass playing, music listening, exercising and book reading I've been doing lately, I've hardly had time to do my laundry, much less come up with any witty content for this site.

I guess you'll have to settle for some dim content, mediocre if you're lucky. Please leave a comment. Perhaps that'll raise the page to a whole new level!

My Interests

Exercise, yoga, listening to music, playing music, browsing the internets, reading, and looking at that turned-off TV.

Music:

I like listening to (and playing) many kinds of music: jazz, blues, funk, R&B (real R&B from the 60s/70s), rock, classic rock, and bluegrass. Even 80s pop has a special place in my heart...

Movies:

I like movies. I really do. But if I mention how long it has been since I've seen a movie, someone would organize an intervention, drag me to the video store, and... Hey! That wouldn't be so bad! Bring it on!

Television:

Isn't a television like an old-fashioned YouTube?

Books:

I don't get nearly as much time to read as I'd like. When I get a chance, I like to read sci-fi or non-fiction. I'd have to turn in my geek card if I didn't admit being a Douglas Adams fan. The answer is 42 (in decimal).
Most recently completed books: A Salmon of Doubt, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency

Heroes:

Johnny Cash While I heard some of his music as a kid, regretfully I never learned much about his life until his later years. I met him a couple times back when I lived in the Nashville area. Yes, he was wearing black. Yes, he's as big in real life as he appeared on tv. And yes, he was as genuine in person as people say he was, even going out of his way to ask me "How are ya doin'?".

George Washington Carver His research of soybeans and other legumes has influenced much of their use today. He's probably best known for inventing peanut butter, and who doesn't crave a big ol' messed up PB & J sandwich every now & then?
