His dominant style and creativity together combines an energetic sound captioning the listeners immediate attention. Jamal Sumpter aka DEE-I, was born in Crown Heights-Brooklyn at Kings County Hospital to Yolanda. He grew up in a single-parent home along with his sister. Dee-I has had a host of performances with that of the hip-hop worlds elite. His most notable performance was in the year 2002 on 106 & Parks Freestyle Friday where he was champ for two consecutive weeks. The judges included Lazy Bone (member of Bone Thugs & Harmony), Sunshine Anderson and a member of Def Jam. After this victory, he independently began to market his own mix cds throughout New York and Richmond, VA. While marketing his mix cds, he also featured on the mix cds of Ron G, DJ Thoro, Big Mike, Goldie and Pac Man. Unbeknown to him, he would soon become acquainted with DMX. DMX invited DEE-I to a sit down. DEE-I then established a friendship with Bazzar Royale who was signed with Bloodline Records. He later became Bazzars hype man and toured with him on the headline tour Lyricist Lounge Tour that featured Big Daddy Kane, Killer Priest and Bazzar Royale and the Wu-Tang Reunion Tour. He went on to be an opening act at the Capitile Club in NY for the Cradle to the Grave movie that starred DMX. Dee-I remained on his grind and opened up for Lil Webbie, Boyz In Da Hood, Guerilla Black and Cierra to name a few. He was booked for a show in LA during the All-Star weekend. The venue was held at The Hit Factory and hosted by MTVs Sway. Dee-I was also in the independent film called Ghetto Fabulous. This role landed him on one of the pages of the Source magazine. Dee-I is a force to be reckoned with. With his catchy hooks, flawless punch lines and energetic performances, he will be sure to catch your ear.
