GHETTO METAL is a category of music representing a fusion of musical cultures; a collaboration of metal, rock, hip-hop, funk, soul, blues, spoken word, and reggae.
Spearheaded by hip hop/rock Bloodline Records recording artist Bazaar Royale and hip-hop recording artist/activist M1 (Dead Prez) GHETTO METAL is the next phase of urban music. Period. We are founded on the same principles as The Black Rock Coalition which was formed in 1985 by Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid, journalist Greg Tate, and producer Konda Mason in reaction to the constrictions that the commercial music industry places on black alternative artists. 20 years later GHETTO METAL also strives to show the universality and transcendence of musical genres.
The emergence and overwhelming popularity of I-pods; the accessibility of music on the internet; the recent changes in the music industry; how music is distributed and purchased have lent themselves into creating a kind of atmosphere conducive to the development and acceptance of alternate types of musical categories like GHETTO METAL. People are not only having choices and say on what they are listening to but are also being exposed to many more types of music and no longer have to stay within the narrow confines of the commercial radio choices.
The GHETTO METAL Movement is a revolutionary moment in history. It’s about personal expression, personal choice, and personal freedoms. It’s about the fans!!! They are the eternal music lovers who are bold in their expectations and not afraid to ask for what they want. It’s about changing old rules and making new ones!!!Not for the weak at heart GHETTO METAL IS HERE TO STAY!!!ABOUT THE FOUNDERS There is nothing more powerful than the endorsement of a society's avant garde, especially in an age where over saturation and commercialism leaves consumers looking not just for a credible brand message, but credible brand messengers.Bazaar Royale... a rock star royale, imparts new meaning to the genres of hip-hop and rock-n-roll. His self defined ‘Aggressive Soul’ is unique and original in its artistry. By melding the fierce, high-energy sounds of rock and hip hop with gritty vocals and soulful rhythms he's produced his own sound. He sings of freedom. Bazaar's feral war cry transports listeners into his world of pain and suffering illuminated by hope. Many artists profess that they will change the face of music. However, few are equipped with the ammunition to do so. Bazaar Royale is a composer and a lyricist that challenges the status quo. His raspy, bluesy yet soulful voice combined with his "hood rock/ soul music", intense energy, and heartfelt lyrics is a rarity in artists today. ‘Aggressive Soul’ is poised to knock the industry's paradigm of categorized music from its foundation forcing minds to prescribe to a new way of thinking about what music is and what music can be. He taps into the well of his life experience delivering music that is rich in contradictions. Like James Brown is the ‘Godfather of Soul’ Bazaar Royale is the ‘Prince of Ghetto Metal.’M-1... a.k.a. Mutulu Olugabala is a rapper, activist, author, and one half of the political hip-hop duo Dead Prez. With albums like "Let's Get Free," "Turn Off the Radio Vol.1," "Turn Off the Radio Vol.2: Get Free or Die Trying," and "RGB: Revolutionary But Gangsta", M1 and his partner Stic Man have become known largely for their hard-hitting style and politically active lyrics focusing on racism, critical pedagogy, activism against governmental hypocrisy, and corporate control over the media especially hip-hop record labels. In June 2006 the cable movie network "Starz In Black" began airing an original documentary called Dead Prez: It's Bigger Than Hip Hop directed by John Threat. The hour-long documentary featured live footage and interviews with Dead Prez. It also featured interviews from Kamel Bell, son of incarcerated Black Panthers Herman Bell; Fred Hampton Jr., son of Black Panther Chairman Fred Hampton. Among the topics discussed in the documentary are the inadequacies of the public education system, minority entrepreneurship, and social revolution. M-1's first solo album "CONFIDENTIAL" is in stores now.
