It's all about the song...

About Me

Josh likes to think of himself as "just a musical kinda guy". This rather vague description basically means that he's a multi-instrumentalist songwriter who often dabbles in engineering and producing music as well. The main thing is that music is his life and he would be lost without it. Currently Josh is touring both Australia and the UK as drummer for Sydney based songsmith Josh Pyke. The gig with Pyke also allows him to move between instruments at some points of the live show, including the odd song on bass guitar and even Banjo in Josh Pyke's track 'Monkey with a Drum'. His dad is very proud (Mr. Schuberth was once a banjo player and taught Josh the very little amount that he knows). With Josh Pyke, he has been lucky enough to tour with the likes of Eskimo Joe on their 'Black fingernails, Red Wine' tour, and even share a double decker bus with Ben Kweller across the UK. Josh was also spotted late last year playing a music stand and plastic DVD case of all things in a thrown together 3 piece percussion ensemble with the mad man himself, Ben Folds, at Triple J's 'Like a Version' session. The resulting cover version of the Postal Service track 'Such Great Heights' was eventually voted #70 in this years JJJ hottest 100! The Josh Pyke band recently took to the stage of new look Sunday night comedy show 'Rove Live' for Josh's latest single 'Lines on Palms'. Josh has previously toured and recorded with the likes of Genevieve Maynard, Stella One Eleven, Paul Greene, Melanie Horsnell, Bertie Blackman, Tim Ireland and many more. The tracks above are taken from an EP of original songs recorded and performed by Josh at his home studio in Sydney. As a multi-instrumentalist he is often asked 'Why not just pick one thing and stick with it?', but Josh cites 'boredom' as the reason for attacking so many aspects of music, and finds that this is the only way he can keep from going crazy. Being able to change roles makes his life a whole lot more interesting and 'keeps him on his toes'. Stay tuned for more new tracks soon!
