About Me

Former SCANNER, GALLOWS POLE and AT VANCE Bassist John A.B.C. Smith founded GODS ARMY in 2004. Since then he has been writing new song material and was looking for the right musicians to form this powerful band. He immediately acquired the services of two long time friends to look after the axework: Ireland based Ian OSullivan (with whom he collaborated with in HALLOWED) and the Hamburg, Germany based Don Amiro. They started work straight away on songwriting and recorded the first Gods Army takes in the winter of 2004.John met Mark Cross, former English/German drummer of FIREWIND (ex - METALIUM, KINGDOM COME, WINTERS BANE and HELLOWEEN), on tour with AT VANCE in May 2005. Mark also had his own songs and lyrics, which were meant for his solo project and was also on the hunt for creative musicians at the time. John and Mark realised through touring together that the chemistry was there for productive musical collaboration. Their musical interests and influences were very similar and the combination of their ideas and compositions was the final push for GODS ARMY!11 songs have been recorded and selected for their first CD. Their music is best described as a powerful mixture of British style heavy metal with more up to date beats and riffs thrown in to beef up the overall sound. Dont be fooled by the name either! There is no religious concept behind the music, rather the songs are about everything and everybody and what ever affects humanity as a whole. This message is summed up in the title track; Gods Army. The band focuses on catchy melodies, strong riffs and a pounding rhythm section with the intention of steering away from typical European Power Metal and keep their arrangements simple, more traditional, and more to the point! A powerful live performance is guaranteed! The band is comprised of professional musicians who have been around for a long time and that assures a mature approach to what they do, and John A.B.C. Smith with his unique and honest vocal style wont be long in winning the metal masses over! The first track I will survive was included on Rock Hard magazines Newcomers compilation of last winter and Gods army went on to come second in the Rock Hard online popularity poll! They recorded the final drum tracks last November and recently started laying down guitar, bass and vocal and are looking for a deal. GODS ARMY played their first gigs in Germany in December 2005 opening for Paul Dianno and Mystic Prophecy and headlined the Benefit for the homeless festival in Dortmund on February 3, 2006 and received great feedback from the audience and very positive reviews in Rock Hard magazine and various Webzines. On December 17, 2005 and January 7, 2006 they also filmed and recorded an in concert DVD, which was performed at the Matrix, Bochum.
