GNBC Photo Album
We meet and discuss Graphic Novels and Collected trades of Comic Books.
We thank Ash Avenue Comics & Books & Changing Hands Book Store in Tempe, Arizona for their support. All members receive a 10% discount on our book club selections. Please patron them for your graphic novel book club purchases. :)
We aim to discuss the art and writing of each selection as well as the literary value and political message, if any. We also put the publication into historical context as to what was happening at the time of publication. We also place the selection into the context of sequential art as a genre and evaluate it as such.
We would also like to encourage the Graphic Novel and Comic Book reading and creating community here in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. We have both in our group and would love to have more. We hope to serve as a place for friends of the Genre to meet and socialize in the context of reading great comics.
The club had its first meeting June 12th, 2005 and has been going strong since. See the "Intrests" section for a complete list of titles read to date.
We are an over-21 crowd (note that we meet in a brewery past 7pm on a school night) and in maintaining the book club, we like to keep the discussions lively, and without concern over what young ears should hear. We are here to discuss Graphic Novels, Trade Paperbacks, and comic books in general. And we do. And we hope you'd like to join us.
The Graphic Novel Book Club is a local book club moderated by the Graphic Novel Book Club Moderator, Rosa . We are an independent group and thank our local comic and book sellers for their affiliation with us. Thx-R

A Note About Project Vertigo:
We will be reading Sandman and Preacher in their entirety. We read one volume of each book and compare and contrast as well as evaluate the books for both stand-alone and contextual merit.
We chose these books because both series were designed to be limited and therefore would end. As much as we love Fables, Hellblazer, and the rest of the Vertigo line, they are ongoing series, defeating our purpose. We also felt this was best because the Sandman and Preacher were books of the 1990s, and would allow for historical contextualization of a time we knew and loved - and we thought it sounded fun. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions about Project: Vertigo.
