About Me

myspace layout

What can I say? I'm a work in progress. I moved to Atlanta in 2003, but I'm a Louisiana girl. I had the priviledge of growing up in a small town and being raised by the proverbial "village" to appreciate life's simple pleasures. So far, I'm enjoying what Atlanta has to offer, except for the traffic. I do communications work for the state, which suits my interests well. I love to write. Right now work and school occupy most of my time, but I plan to devote more time to writing my debut novel after I graduate next year. Since I have so little of it, my free time is priceless. Keeping a healthy lifestyle is important so I always squeeze in time to hit the gym several times a week. I like hanging out with friends, but quiet nights at home can be just as relaxing. I've been told I have an "old soul" meaning I'm pretty settled for my age. I don't need drama and stress subtracting years from my life. And, you won't find me hitting the clubs too often. Been there, done that. And, no, despite my height, I have never been skilled on the basketball court. I prefer to think of myself as an "intellectual athlete." One more thing: I LOVE college football! In fact, I plan activities around the games, which may frustrate anyone who's not a true fan. Anything else you need to know? I guess you'll just have to ask!

My Interests

People watching: you should try it next time you're stuck in line somewhere. We're some funny creatures! Sweets and tasty food: I would eat s and cookies daily if they were good for me. When I visit south Louisiana, I always make time to sample food from all my favorite eating establishments (Boudin King, Raising Cane's, Mike Anderson's - You better ask somebody!). In fact, I once missed a flight doing so! I also like movies and concerts (preferably outdoor or small venues). Next year, when my schedule allows, I'd like to join a book club and do some volunteer work. More travel is also on my wish list. I enjoy working out and hope to run my first Peachtree Road Race in 2007.

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet someone who's mature regardless of his age, but he shouldn't be too uptight. I'm a sucker for a guy who can make me laugh because sometimes I can be silly as hell. It would be nice to meet someone who can hang out with me and my friends at a sports bar, accompany me to a business reception, or just enjoy a Blockbuster night in. Height, a healthy lifestyle, and a love of football would be great, too!

Music:

I listen to whatever sounds good. Lately, I've preferred old school R&B.

Movies:

Too many favorite movies to list. Some good ones that come to mind: The Color Purple (possibly my favorite), The Long Kiss Goodnight (Go Charlie Baltimore), Akeelah and the Bee, William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet (so imaginative!), The Golden Child (Viva Nepal!), Menace II Society, The Last Dragon (good, campy fun), Run Lola Run, Brown Sugar (Mos Def stole the movie), Bad Boys (Mike LOW-rey), A History of Violence (excellent acting), Coming to America, Malcolm X, Shrek, Beauty & the Beast...I could go on. I like all types obviously!

Television:

Right now, I'm hooked on Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives. I'm a big time Law & Order addict, too. I watch Law & Order SVU, but the original's my favorite, especially the old episodes with Lennie Briscoe. I also love watching Sex & the City. I love all the characters, but I'm most like Charlotte. My life has mirrored her storyline in some ways. Which Sex and the City Character Are You?
Congratulations! You are Charlotte.

Books:

I've always been a bookworm. The best book I have ever read is Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. I think it's a must-read for all young women. Can't wait to meet my Tea Cake! The last novel I read was What Looks Like Crazy on An Ordinary Day by Pearl Cleage. It was entertaining and laugh out loud funny at times. Before that, I read For One More Day by Mitch Albom which was touching and thought provoking. It made we want to run to my family and hug each of them, especially my mom. Right now, I'm finishing I Wish I Had A Red Dress by Pearl Cleage. So far, I love it.

Heroes:

My mom, my dad, my stepmom, my grandparents, my friends. They teach me about love, determination, forgiveness, and hard work by their examples.
