I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Aloha! My name is Khris and I’m a crafter, wedding guru, author, small business owner, and all-around swell gal based in the Silicon Valley.
I’m deeply involved in the wedding and crafting industries. For the past several years, I’ve been operating DIY Bride, a free online wedding resource for do-it-yourself couples. My first DIY wedding crafts book, The DIY Bride: 40 Fun Projects for Your Ultimate One-of-a-Kind Wedding, is being released in January 2008 through The Taunton Press. I look forward to writing more craft and wedding books. And maybe a cookbook in there somewhere. I love what I do and am grateful to have these awesome opportunities.
My personal philopophy about weddings is this: you can have an amazing wedding on any budget. It takes some time to plan, a willingness to do some research, and lots of help. But it can be done and done well!
I think DIY weddings have gotten a bad rap as being kinda tacky, doe-eyed-child-tchotchke-laden (you know which ones I'm talking about!) affairs. I'm evangelical about changing that image. My mission is to show you how elegant, whimsical, chic, modern, gorgeous, and fun a DIY wedding can be.
I strongly support the DIY and craft communities, small business, organic/green/socially responsible business, and ethical wedding businesses.

My Interests

weddings, wedding planning, crafts, diy, do-it-yourself, invitations, bouquets, jewelry, veils, accessories, fashion, rubber stamping, paper crafts, makeup, vow renewals, bridal events, save-the-dates, music, small business, entrepreneurs, cooking, travel, camping, indie businesses, pop culture

I'd like to meet:

• the utterly fabulous
• the ridiculously crafty
• worshipers of glittery goodness
• DIYers of all kinds and skill levels
• those appreciative of the absurd
• clever souls
• sweet spirits
• indie business owners
• those who rebel against the Wedding Industrial Complex
• nerds, geeks
• wedding peeps
• writers, authors
• collaborators
• fun people
• you

Music:

Eclectic. On my iPod you'll find a little bit of everything and even a whole playlist dedicated to "guilty pleasures". My standard, go-to listening at the moment: Midnight Oil, Tool, Nina Simone, the Ramones, John Butler Trio, Xavier Rudd, Eric Bibb, the Clash, Paul Greene, the Backsliders (AU), Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Richard Cheese, Brian Setzer, Tiger Army, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bjork, and Apocalyptica.

Movies:

Anything Hitchcock (originals, not remakes). I'm hopelessly in love with Hope & Crosby "Road" movies. I dig indie films and documentaries as well as the occasional blockbuster. I have undying love for Kevin Smith, Richard Linklatter, the Brat Pack, the Rat Pack, and the Cohen Brothers. I'm obligated to see anything with Ewan McGregor, Daniel Craig, Clive Owen, and Chow Yun Fat ... just because.

Television:

Current faves: LOST, Top Chef, Man vs. Wild, Simpsons, Family Guy, No Reservations, The Daily Show and Colbert Report.

Books:

I'm knee-high in craft books right now, working my way through a lot of Japanese zakka books that've been on my shelf forevah.
