About Me

Toronto, 2000: Gene meets Trevor while both attending film school. Trevor recruits Gene for a bit part in a mock commercial being shot in a barn in the middle of Buttfuck Nowhere. They spend the entire trip talking about obscure indie bands from the 90's with another crew member.Annex, Toronto, 2002: Mike & Gene meet at a liquor store. Gene whispers to his lady, 'That guy's in a band.' 'How can you tell?' she asks. 'He's too broke to buy a 24 so he's buying Crest. That and just look at him...' They all hit it off. Mike sings in the band The Peyote Kings with Sergey playing guitar.October 2002: Gene starts new job with Omar. They work on numerous low-end video productions together, visit Las Vegas, etc.Aug 2004: Peyote Kings break up.circa summer 2005 through 2006: Mike can't stand the quiet anymore, makes several attempts to start a new band. He works with several musicians including Gene, but all false starts until...Winter 2006: Mike asks Gene to start House of Commons with him. They begin as a 3-piece, Mike, Gene and the Drum Machine, frustratedly trying out several drummers. Mike drafts Sergey to pick up lead guitar. Still no drummer. Gene confers one wasted eve with old film-school mate Matt Hardstaff (now official HOC videographer) who tells him Trevor plays drums. (This is a white lie, Trev only just picked up drums having had his fill of guitar and vox). At audition, Trevor hits drums harder and with more enthusiasm than anyone had ever seen. He's a natural. They scoop him up.July 27th, 2006: HOC play their first show to a raving audience at the Reverb in Toronto.December 2006: Sergey announces the headlining show at Lee's Palace will be his last, as he moves on to focus on folk-pop band 'Interphase Project.January 2006: Omar joins up, a veteran of the band Red Letter Day; assumes guitar duties. And here we are...
