we’re a dutch all-girl band called butcherbaby , with members from zaandam and amsterdam.
butcherbaby was founded five years ago, starting from scratch. we learned to play our instruments as we went along, wrote our material together and did a couple of gigs. in 2005 our drummer marjorie quit the band. as of may last year, we have a new drummer, sharon. we dropped a lot of old material and started writing new songs. we’ve just recorded our first official demo and are currently doing gigs again.
you could describe our music as rock with a touch of metal, punk and grunge. our influences are countless, especially since every member has a different taste in just about everything. still, major influences are 7 year bitch, nirvana (with a special love for ‘bleach’) and L7.
people like to call our music riot grrrl and that’s fine with us. they also like to call us ‘feminists’ but that’s just wrong. can’t a girl play a little loud without hating all men?
