Andrew Kennedy is a Brisbane singer/songwriter.

In February this year he released his debut album, Shrugging it Off, to solid reviews. Also, stand out track 'Driftwood' placed in the top ten for it's category in the 2007 Qsong awards.
Emerging as a solo artist on the Brisbane music scene over the past 12 months, Andrew has shared the stage alongside artists Jackie Marshall, Diana Anaid and Cameron Wilson (Daisycutters) to name a few. As well as this, Andrew ploughed his way through several rounds of the Barsoma Singer Songwriter Competition earlier in the year. Having honed his live show, Andrew is set to promote his album across the border with a solo tour of Australia's East Coast in Mid October. Dates to be announced.
"unlike your Murrays and Butlers, [Andrew] can tell his elbow from his funny bone" – Jeff Apter, Sydney Morning Herald
"A must for any indie pop lover" – Robert LaBrie, Toowoomba Chronical.
Driven by catchy hooks, honest storytelling and clever guitarwork Andrew Kennedy's sound is a refreshing blend of indie pop with a gently funky undercurrent. Think Josh Pyke and Crowded House meets John Mayer.
At the heart of Andrew's sound lies guitar driven energy and honest lyrics. Drawing material from personal experiences, his songs touch upon familiar themes like love, anger and struggle. All with a sense of authenticity that listeners can connect with.

Debut Album - "Shrugging It Off"

With an uncomplicated high-energy sound, Shrugging It Off is an indie-pop reflection on the past few years of Andrew's life.
The album was recorded and produced by Andrew who also played most of the instruments.
Stand out track Driftwood reached the top 10 for it's category in the 2007 Qmusic Awards and has received nationwide community radioplay. With frenzied acoustic playing and sensitive arrangements, Driftwood is a touching song describing the heartache of a friendship going through a rough time.

Background

Having been exposed to music at an early age through weekly piano lessons, music often seemed more of a chore than a passion. However, things changed in high school thanks to a left-of-centre piano teacher who encouraged Andrew to be creative and find his own musical style.
In 1997, Andrew commenced studies in Jazz at the Qld Conservatorium of Music. While this time helped Andrew to grow as a musician, the intense scruitiny left him feeling a bit like a square peg in a round hole.
In 1998, Andrew started an originals duo with fellow musician Mardi Lumsden called Pseudo Llama. The line-up grew to five members in 2001 and Pseudo Llama began gigging quite frequently in Brisbane. 2002 saw the band reach the semi-finals of the Qld Rock Awards, quite an achievement for an acoustic band. 2003 brought with it the recording and release of Pseudo Llama's EP 'Softly Spoken Lies' to a sold out audience at The Healer in Brisbane. Unfortunately, the band broke up shortly after.
In the years that followed, Andrew continued to write and find his own sound. He performed and recorded with a variety of acts around Brisbane including jazz trios, duos and bands in venues all over South East Queensland. And has now launched Shrugging It Off with a new foray into the world of indie pop.
