Multi-platinum pianist/vibist Alan Hewitt has made a name for himself as a writer, producer and musician. For most of his career, he has camped out in recording studios with some of the hottest names in a variety of genres. From pop to rock, he has written, produced and played on records with the likes of Earth, Wind & Fire, Warrant, Jonathan Butler and Donny Osmond. A regular music writer for Oprah, Hewitt has also contributed scores and songs to a variety of major television shows, networks and motion pictures, such as, Gods & Generals; Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason; The Osbournes; MTV; Survivor; Happy Gilmore; ESPN; E!Entertainment Television; and “Swimming Upstream.â€Originally a drummer and vocalist, Hewitt took up the piano and keyboards while attending the Berklee College of Music. It was there that he truly cultivated his dream of becoming a composer/producer and made a name for himself as a chameleon that could play in most any musical style. Hewitt toured with legendary blues artist T. Bone Walker (“Stormy Mondayâ€) and bands across a variety of genres to help fund his way through school.A first-call composer with an ear for music production, Hewitt garnered the respect internationally of his peers by writing, producing and playing music for CD’s, films, television, and commercials. Hewitt’s work on films and commercials would earn prestigious awards such as, “The Golden Planet Award,†and the “ESPY Award for Excellence.â€After the release of Noche de Pasion in 2004, Hewitt emerged as a gifted soloist on the contemporary jazz scene. The first single, “Breathless,†was one of the most added tracks in contemporary jazz ever. Special guest Steve Madaio’s sultry jazz trumpet and Hewitt’s Latin piano riffs provided the melodies on a clubby dance track. Noche de Pasion also featured a collage of extraordinarily talented performances from Jonathon Butler, Mindi Abair, Euge Groove, Michael Lington and Earth, Wind and Fire’s Maurice White. In 2006, Hewitt’s ninth solo release, Metropolis, featured an organic collection of songs with grooving melodies, hot hooks and luscious arrangements.“Metropolis reflects a more urban approach than my other solo CDs. I wrote all the songs without a title in mind, as I wanted the music to tell its own story. There is a lot of energy in the groove and the music crosses genres. Metropolis really gave me a chance to fuse pop and jazz together into the ultimate music stew.â€What the critics have said about Metropolis:“…sophisticated, urban and seductive.†– Jazz Times“This disc is the truth, the bomb…it is off the chain.†– Abyss Jazz2007 has brought many surprises for this award-winning pianist/vibist. Based on his intensive contacts within the industry, Hewitt was asked to write a regular column called “Backstage Pass†for ABYSSJazz Magazine. This column that focuses on a musician’s point of view of current trends on the industry has morphed into podcasts and video production for the upcoming All Star Jazz cruise. Radio production of these interviews is also currently underway. For more information, please contact Cheryl Hughey at 314-660-1755 or [email protected].
