09/12/07 - Charmaine Clamor sings at the Iridium
This was a special event for Charmaine's release of her new album "Flipping Out". Charmaine's contralto voice reached way down and came up with much passion & heat. She performed songs of the Philippines and jazz standards as well. The big surprise of the night was her announcement that 72 hours before she and Fox Sport's Michael Konik had wed. They sang a lovely duet together. She was accompanied by a quintet with special guest Julius Tolentino on sax.

09/09/07 - Ben Lacy & Friends closed out the Long Beach Jazz Festival at Corbin & Reynolds Restaurant. Both the music & food were excellent. Ben started off and was soon joined by Bernard Soto on congas & bongos. Then guitarist Alex Fox stunned us with two intense Flaminco guitar pieces accompanied by Bernard Soto. That was followed by a set with Ben, Bernard, joined by Dean Brown on guitar.

Photos: 05/19/07 ***THREE CHEERS*** for Professor James John, Music Director of the Queens College Choral Society. I mistakenly left my ticket at home for his "A Night At The Opera" choral concert. The auditorium security people weren't buying my "I'll bring you my ticket tomorrow" routine and were in the process of showing me the exit when Professor John stepped in to save the day. A deal was worked out and I got to stay in my seat. Professor John was doing sound checks and about to go on stage when he stopped everything to go to bat for me. What a guy! It turned out to be a fabulous concert featuring the Queens College Chorus, Queens College Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera star Erika Sunnegardh, soprano, and Jennifer Barsamian, mezzo-soprano, with James John and Cindy Bell conducting. The program consisted of opera choruses from Carmen, Turandot, Nabucco, and more.
Press Release: Met Opera Star & Queens College Grad Erika Sunnegårdh
To Security: Here's my ticket as promised. Thanks!

Video: Here's guitarist Ben Lacy at the Long Beach Jazz Festival 09/10/06. Ben was taking requests from the audience and applying his particular brand of magic to them all. Don't let your ears fool you. There's no drums. There's no bass. It's all Ben. I am looking forward to seeing Ben again when he comes up for this year's festival.

PETE LEVIN "Deacon Blues"
Pete writes: "A bit of shameless merchandising here: I wanted to let you know that Motema Music has officially released my new CD, "Deacon Blues". This is the straight ahead organ trio I've been wanting to do for years. It's a 'players' album, I think, featuring several old friends: Two of my favorite guitarists - Mike DeMicco and the phenomenal Joe Beck - and the legendary Danny Gottlieb laying down the groove. Plus, we've got my brother Tony on bass for a couple of tracks. You don't find him on Jazz sessions that often. The CD is available on line at Motema's website www.motema.com or at amazon.com. If you do Amazon and feel moved to drop a comment there, that would be much appreciated. Best wishes, Pete"

IN MEMORY OF
My Signed BRECKER BROTHERS Album: In March 1976 I attended the Brecker Brothers gig at the Bottom Line in NYC. The guys were fantastic. Never heard anything like it before. After the show I told Michael & Randy how much I enjoyed the show. They signed an album cover for me. Randy signed Michael's picture. Michael signed Randy's. We all laughed about it. I will really miss Michael but as you can see the memories continue to live on within us all.
================================================
I DON'T PLAY DRUMS: I am not Steve Hass the drummer. I played keyboards just for fun back in the day as you can see above. The only thing I can do with two sticks is to make a fire or eat Chinese food. That being said, 'Hassy' is a very cool and talented professional musician. You should check out his page and his music at
