BIO
Guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Scott Jones is a Progressive Arts recording artist based out of St. Louis, Missouri.
He's been a musician for 27 years, and a full time professional guitarist, composer, arranger for the last 17 years.
Scotts debut C.D. Freedom, made the Grammy finalists list for Best Contemporary Jazz Release in 2004, and received critical acclaim.
Scott played all the guitar and did all the programming and sequencing of every instrument on Freedom, except on "Convergence" and "Chaos Theory" where he played acoustic drums also.
Scotts next release Convergence, set for release in 2007, has a lineup of legends backing him up: Virgil Donati, Rufus Philpot, Steve Weingart, Lale Larson, Alex Argento, Gary Willis, Scott Lerner, Scott Henderson, Brett Garsed, Marc Guillermont, Chris Poland, Guthrie Govan, RonThal, Greg Howe, Joel Hoekstra; to be co-written and co-produced by drummer James A. Jackson II.
Recently featured in the Oct. 2005 Guitar Player magazine, an international publication with a history of 30 years, Scott was named one of the world's top ten undiscovered guitarists by the editors of the magazine. 10 finalists were chosen by the editors of GP magazine, out of 3000 submissions from all over the world.
Although Scott's main focus is on jazz and fusion, he is recognized as one of the most widely diverse players today.
You can find Scott's current C.D. "Freedom" on iTunes.
REVIEWS OF "FREEDOM":
"Like Shawn Lane, Scott is a most impressive musician, and really sets the standard on what I am guessing is his main instrument, the guitar. Though, I should say, of the 16 short pieces on the disc, not one is done in a vain or showoffish way. Jones has more commitment towards composition savvy than to waste time shredding or improvising mindlessly. This is the sign of musical maturity, and the confidence of expressing oneself through instrumentation without seeming contrived or impersonal as many guitarists seem to do these days." MJ Brady www.Proggnosis.com
"This is without doubt the best jazz/rock/fusion album I have heard in over 3 years and will be in heavy rotation on my CD player for a long time to come. This comes with my highest recommendation for a brilliant release that surely heralds the arrival of a name synonymous with the biggest names in the game." Greg Cummins www.seaoftranquility.org
"Scott Jones has taken elements of jazz and progressive music and combined them to compose Freedom, an album comprised of sixteen instrumental pieces. It becomes quickly apparent that he has done his homework on the opening track, Muldars Search, which is a progressive number featuring guitar, keyboards, and a xylophone-like synthesizer loop. This song would fit in nicely with Liquid Tension Experiment or Platypus work." Brian A. Smith www.tollbooth.org
"Scott Jones can play just about anything he puts his mind to. Any doubts concerning this statement should be cleared easily after a quick visit to his website. Scott regularly posts snippets of his excursions into different styles jazz, rock, country - you name it. If from all the snippets hes posted one was left questioning whether Jones was merely a jack of all trades, in the context of his original material all of his abilities come into focus, melding into one coherent personal style. The album succeeds in pulling into focus all of Jones abilities to reveal his personal style. Obviously theres a huge difference between a great player (which Jones has already proven himself to be) and an artist and what separates the men from the boys is original music which brings us to Scotts first release. For those who thought Freedom would be all about chops think again. Freedom is first and foremost an album which highlights Jones compositional and arranging abilities. Aside from Bill Elrod on sax, Jones sequenced the whole album himself, truly making it a solo album. The album kicks off with Muldars Search which sets the pace for things to come unison lines, harmonically complex changes juxtaposed over challenging rhythms and burning guitar. The beauty is that Jones never sounds forced, he sounds just plain intense. Bottom line, Jones is much more than a phenomenal guitar player. Throughout the album he proves himself to be a mature composer and accomplished arranger. In that sense Freedom is a real triumph for Jones. To fully digest the depth and beauty of this album will require several plays but its well worth it. Highly recommended." Oliver Holmes www.essentialguitarist.com

For more than three years, ongoing violence has devastated the remote western region of Sudan known as Darfur. Fighting has reduced villages to ashes, crops to barren fields.
