About Me

..
..
Yes, that's me you're listening to play guitar. I've played rock guitar most of my life, and I suppose I always will, but most of what I've done recently, if anything, is enjoy messing around with jazz. Mostly because of the challenge but I also like the style, history, and instrumentation. I still love playing rock and other styles though. Some of my influences are listed to the left there.
I got my first guitar when I was 8 and it was all downhill from there I guess. lol. I've been playing in bands and stuff since I was 11. I started playing in bars when I was 14. Mostly Top 40 but I managed to work into my schedule gigs with a classic heavy metal band on the side. We even did original music. I also used to do radio and TV commercials but, for some reason, I never thought it important to keep any kind of record of the stuff I did. I really have very little to show for the first 3rd of my life from a music standpoint but it's not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things I guess. The details aren't that important so it basically boils down to this: I studied guitar, piano, voice, and music theory in college, hit the road professionally at 20 playing 80s metal, learned some hard lessons, and quit some years after that.
[insert extended disappearing act here]
I did dabble in recording a few years ago - that version of Take 5 included (I tried to see if I could get some rock people to listen to jazz by fusing the two styles) - but I'm not currently playing live except to sit in with friends from time to time and I don't do any recording anymore. It might be something I'd enjoy getting back into someday but I have no plans currently. We'll see. I did it for most of my life and there are so many new things to do and see that it may be awhile until I get to it all. I do enjoy going out to see my friends rock out though. It makes me happy to see people still getting off on playing and enjoying music.
Anyway, those twin guitars in my Pics section are Schecter Jazz Elites. They only made them for one year. It was hell finding a backup (the black cherry one). They're amazing guitars though. I also own the 5th Soloway Swan ever made and the 508th San Dimas Jackson Soloist Custom. That Vox AD50VT is an amazing amp as well. You wouldn't know it to look at it but, damn, that thing is loud. The rest of the family:
Corona CA Strat
Roland Ready Strat
Fender Jazz bass
Seagull S6
Ibanez Classical
I also have a Roland GR-33 guitar synth. It's pretty cool playing sax on a guitar but I don't seem to use it much these days.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: http://www.bradprestonmusic.com/
Band Members: Me and Brad Preston - he plays piano.
Influences:
Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Charlie Christian, Joe Pass, Lenny Breau, Howard Roberts, Pat Metheny, Robert Cray, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, Micheal Schenker, Warren DiMartini, George Lynch and about a hundred other musicians most of whom don't even play guitar.

Sounds Like: Most people say I sound like Wes Montgomery meets George Benson. They're probably right - those are the two guys I studied the most. I don't think I sound like any rock players. My rock style was derived more from theory classes than learning other rock player's licks and stuff.

Type of Label: Major

My Blog

So, its another New Year. Some thoughts on that.

Well, 2007 is in the books and, despite some pretty horrible things happening to me which I won't detail, all told, so much good came of it that I can't help but look forward to the year ahead. It's e...
