A work in progress ...

About Me

Brian Roach here. I finally got around to putting together a myspace page ... late to the party I suppose. Much like myself, it's a work in progress.
Just moved to the Denver area from the East Coast, bought a house in Brighton just outside of Denver. I'm working as a software engineer at a company in Superior.
I got married in 2003 to Laura Granato (now Laura Roach, obviously). We're currently in the middle of a logistics nightmare, as I've taken a job out here in CO, and she's still in DE. Once we sell the house in DE, we're taking our RV that we've used for going to racetracks (along with the 2 dogs and 4 cats ...) and making the trek across the country. I recommend 'RV' with Robin Williams or possibly one of Chevy Chase's 'Family Vacation' movies for reference material if you're having any problems visualizing this trip.
So far I'm digging this place. I used to climb and ski, so I'm getting back into both those things. Riding (motorcycles) out here is awesome, so I've been just riding out into the mountains and canyons finding good roads. Can't wait until it gets just a bit warmer.
For the last few years I've been road-racing motorcycles and working at a race shop out east. I'm going to put more racing pics up when I get a chance. Not sure how much racing I'm going to do this year, but there are some tracks out here and I've still got my TZ250 GP bike. I parted with the R6 when I left the East Coast ... not enough room, and if I'm going to keep racing SuperSport I'm going to want a '06+.

My Interests

Way too many. Motorcycles, Rock Climbing, Movies, Computer Programming, and Computer Games are probably at the top of the list.

I'd like to meet:

Since I'm new to the area I'm just trying to make new friends and meet cool people.

Also looking for people to ride with - if you're in the area and want to go out some weekend, give me a shout. I'm still finding the good roads out here and waiting for some of them to finally clear of snow and grit!

Notable Quotes There is an elasticity in the human mind, capable of bearing much, but which will not show itself, until a certain weight of affliction be put upon it; its powers may be compared to those vehicles whose springs are so contrived that they get on smoothly enough when loaded, but jolt confoundedly when they have nothing to bear.
CHARLES CALEB COLTON, Lacon
That which does not destroy me makes me stronger.
FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE, Twilight of the Idols
The problem is that it requires testing, to know. Finding out you can lift up a parked car is *always* going to suck.
HOLLY VON WINCKEL, discussing the human spirit and strength

This qualifies as a bad day at the track.

Music:

Wide range - I never rule out anything I haven't heard. Everything from Rock to Punk to Techno. Lately I've been listening to a lot of EMO (My Chemical Romance, AFI, Senses Fail), with some old school Goth and Punk thrown in.

Movies:

Serenity, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Matrix, Saving Private Ryan, The Da Vinci Code, Anything with Bruce Willis for action, City of Angels, The 300.

Television:

I honestly don't really watch much. SciFi channel stuff (BSG, Stargate/Atlantis), bad B movies, and sports (racing mostly, football in the fall/winter).

Books:

Mostly Science Fiction and Fantasy. However, I've been on a kick lately to read some classics that I never got around to. I just read Hemingway's 'The Old Man and the Sea' this weekend. Amazing story. I also am reading Nietzsche at the moment, haven't formed a good opinion on it yet. Other than that ... technical stuff (programming), and occasionally a non-fiction if it seems interesting.

We use Vonage for our home phone. Yes, before I continue ... we still have a "home phone". If you're single and live in an apartment ... well, having just a mobile phone is probably not even a mild in...

I feel safer already ...

So apparently ... when you move into a new place these days, there's yet another very important "security" measure in place to keep you safe from the boogy man in the closet. We just bought a new hous...
