About Me

Let me start by saying my real name is Antwaune Davis. Spankie is a child hood name that has stuck with me ever since! Most people know me by Spankie, but on session credits you will most likely see my real name. So that's who I be, you dig! (enough said) ;-) I'm from a little big town called Memphis, TN (LOL) but, now currently live in the Nashville area. Just a little about my musical life and history. First let me start by saying I hate being categorized (bass player, drummer, etc...). Let's just say I'm a musician who's current main role is bass player! [a little key bass from time to time] :-) Having been born into a musical family, music was brought into my life at an early age. I started playing drums at the age of 3. Drums were the center of my world all through jr high, high school, and college. Then in late 1992 and early 1993 I began to mess around with the bass, and the rest is history, we've been messing around every since! :-) I'm presently holding the bottom down in a few capacities. In the gospel arena I'm the bassist for Kevin Davidson & the Voices and I'm holding the low end down for R&B singer Glenn Jones. Other artist that I've had the pleasure of accompaning include Gerald Thompson, Forgiven, Tony Terry, Kim Burrell, Oleta Adams, CeCe Winans, Kurt Carr, Smokey Norful, Moses Tyson, V Michael McKay, The University of Mississippi gospel choir, Stefanie Bolton, Everett McBee, Ted & Sherri, and many others. I've been blessed to have played on many nationally released recordings. The most current releases are Kevin Davidson & the Voices (The Overflow), and Darrel Petties & S.I.P (Count It All Joy - tracks 6,8,10). Coming soon is Everett McBee's solo release and it will be a must have!!!! Check out some of my work in the player above! In the event you need a bassist, music director, drum looping, a band, or recomendations of some good musicians leave me a message or email me at [email protected]! Thanks for visiting my page, enjoy life, make good music, and be blessed!PEACE! SPANKIE - Spankonia_Music........................................ Influences: Bass Players: Jackie Clark (Memphis’ Bass Player :), Joel Smith (bass&drums), Prince, Steve Huff, Andrew Gouche, Larry Graham, Jimmy Netters (Old Skool Mt. Vernon), Robert Wilson, Marcus Miller, Oteil, Jaco, John Patitucci, Fred Hammond, Terrance Palmer, Kern Brantley, Maurce Fitzgerald, Reggie Parker, Reggie Young, and any of the old 70’s funk and 80’s disco era bass players music that I grew up listening to!Other Bands, Musicians, and Singers that I consider influences: PRINCE (would prob. fit in every catergory), EWF, GAP Band, Michael Jackson (weird but he’s a genious), The Revelations (the original Mt. Vernon band - late 70’s early 80’s), Derrick Jackson (a Memphis icon), The Tommies, The Hawkins Family, Kim Burrell, Isreal and New Breed, Mint Condition, Mary J. Blige, Floetry(luv their music), Chick Corea (The old electric and acoustic bands), Cameo, Luther Vandross (big Luther). Let me stop, cause I would be crazy to try and name all my influences! But I have to give props to my family and the church I grew up in! Deborah Davis and The Gospel Family (major influence), Mt. Vernon Baptist Church you could say was a melting pot for up and coming musicians like Ralph Lofton (Mr. B3 himself), Darrel Johnson (Mr. Cool - Houston, Tx), and so many other great musicians that God has allowed me to cross paths with! Oh, I must include two guys that I had the pleasure of playing with in my early bass playing years and that would be Keenan Shotwell and Edward "HOT" Cleveland. I must say these guys made the road ahead much easier!!!! I can truly say that I’m constantly influenced daily from music and musicians I hear! Remember you are never too old to learn!
