Teammates rib them; officials penalize them; students cheer for them; fathers praise them; and mothers worry about them. A field hockey player's courage is in her quest to win, desire to score a goal, pride in her school's name, and confidence in her fellow teammates.A field hockey player loves a game away from home, good competition, smooth hockey fields, the opposition's slow-moving goalie, intercepted passes that ruin the opponent's chances of a goal, and being part of a perfectly executed play. She is not much for running around the field for warming-up, slapstick games, or the end of the season.She is hard-working, playing for her team and not for the individual glory. A field hockey player is a marvelous creature--you can criticize her but you cannot make her quit; you can knock her over but you cannot keep her down; you can bruise her shins and bang her fingers, but she'll be back with tape. Might as well admit it, be alumnus, coach or fan, she is your personal reputation on the field. She may not be an all-american, but her dedication will take her all the way.
