Iberia

Make it funky one time...

About Me

One brisk December 10th morning in Milwaukee, WI, the universe opened and gave birth to an illuminating vessel filled with creative gifts to share with the world. She would be called Iberia. Known as Brandi I. Austin by close friends and family, she began utilizing her musical gifts at the early age of 4 in the Corinth childrens choir. As opportunity presented itself, Iberia took positive advantage. She continued on her melodious path singing background in DARE commercials, a program designed to keep children drug free. As a vocalist for Generations in jazz, an organization headed by local jazz legend Penny Goodwin, she had the opportunity to develop her jazz voice as well as sing background for R&B artist Michael Bolton and open for R&B legend Lou Rawls. As one of the lead vocalist of Rhapsodi, she performed at the Fellowship Gospel Music Workshop and the Maryland Family Christian Centers first anniversary, which featured such artists as Richard Smallwood and Vision, Debbie Steele, Maurette Brown- Clarke and others. Through Howard University, Iberia has also had the opportunity to sing her way through Europe with the HU Chorale. She spread her wings and headed further west where she performed at the House of Blues in California with Cora Coleman and Friends. Settling in Atlanta for a rest, she along with partner, Gnyus, formed the hot band that was sweeping the city, Black Coffee. They performed at several venues around town gaining exposure and fans.In addition to her vocal abilities, Iberia plays the electric and acoustic bass, writes songs and poetry as well as acts. She has thumped with the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Hansberry-Sands Theatre Company, Agape Unlimited Ministries and Still Waters Church International. Iberia has landed roles in theatrical productions such as Speaking of Freedom (MHSA), Black Broadway (HU Theatre dept.), All about Family (Anointed Gifts), and Crying Shame (Hansberry-Sands).Of all of the steps she has taken to arrive at this point in time, NOW is her brightest and most creative moment. It is now her music that she offers. She is giving her soul, her pain, and her joys to a people hungry for honesty over a hot beat. Her debut album My Turn incorporates elements of jazz, soul, hip-hop and something she likes to call Iberian funk. Iberia is thrilled to expose the world to her gifts. Now is her time to soar. Influences: My mother, Pastor Martha R. Austin who is a creative force in her on right, Stevie Wonder - he encompasses all elements of a true musical artist. He is hands down, one of the top 5 greatest song writers, vocalist, and musicians of all time. Donny Hathaway - His music transends you to the exact moment in time when he wrote the song. Erkah Badu - I just like her. John Mayer- He comes off sincere and has an authintic love for his art form. Gnarls Barkely, this is a very new influence, but when I saw them perform "Crazy" on a video I viewed on Yetunde's page, I was inspired to just be more creative. To let go and be different even if I don't fit in to societal standards. I could go on and on. I am positivley influnced by everyody in the struggle to rise. Peace

Sounds Like: Must I answer this question? I'd say I have my own unique sound. But yes, I have been compared to other artist. In a way it can be a compliment, in other ways it makes one bland. Sound like... I guess I'll let you answer that.PHOTOS BY SEVILLE MEDIA!!!!
