Receiving is perpetuated in giving

About Me

As a nine-year-old I was burned on 100% of my body and given less than one percent chance of surviving the first night. This may come as a stunning surprise, but I did survive. I had to endure months in the hospital, years in therapy and surgeries - but I did survive. As with all of our challenges in life, we can actually use them as the foundation to future success. Every time we fail or fall - and choose to get back up - we grow. The greatest lessons my childhood fire taught me are the importance of family, friends, resilience, and faith (faith in God, ourselves and others) in our lives.I started rehabbing houses after college because I wasn't sure what else to do. Seven years later I went back to school and was certified to work as a hospital chaplain because I wanted to do more. Now I utilize experiences as a hospital chaplain, burn survivor, college student, business owner, Ambassador for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and as a father to share with audiences that everyone can overcome challenges and achieve success in life. Feel free to me at [email protected] if you ever require a professional speaker for your school, business or association.Balance is crucial in life and my greatest joys are my wife, Beth, our son, Jack, and our relationships with family and friends.check out rising-above.com for more information . . . . .www.rising-above.comRising-Above Video

My Interests

Family, friends, baseball, reading, writing, meeting new people and learning new things.

I'd like to meet:

I'd love to meet Abe Lincoln, General Patton, Gandhi, St. Paul, Mark Twain, Martin Luther King and Henri Nouwen, but the fact that all are dead creates a significant challenge.

Music:

I enjoy most music, and all music when played live. Music has to really be poor, almost intentionally bad, to not be good in a live setting.

Movies:

Don't watch too many movies, but that said I am absolutely sure that "Meet the Parents" is the funniest movie ever made.

Television:

I am made fun of all the time by my friends because we got rid of cable and unplugged the tv. Who needs friends anyway when you can watch TV. . . wait a minute. . .Or instead of watching so much TV I can actually hang out and visit with friends and family.

Books:

I love reading - - so much for the idea of hanging out with friends! A few of my favorites are: The Alchemist, The Kite Runner, A Season of Life, The Return of the Prodigal Son, Father Joe, The Power of Now, The Killer Angels . . . basically any book that reminds me of the power intrinsic in the human spirit.
