BIOGRAPHY
GLEAM Joel was born in the year 1979, into a Christian middle class family in Nairobi Kenya (the city in the sun). At the age of thirteen dew to his adventurous spirit and peer-pressure, his life took a wrong turn into the dark side of life. He inflicted lots of sorrows to those who dearly loved him. He was the so called, black sheep in his black family.
Fascinated by the carefree lifestyle of some ghetto youth, who idled around his neighborhood he quickly made friends with them. These friendship lead to excessive consuming of alcohol and drugs, violence, gangster life and problems with the police. He was now the outcast of the society. At this time he also learnt how to rap, and got involved in various competitions hosted in clubs. At the age of 16 he was so entangle and addicted to this lifestyle that his school and family relationship was badly damaged. He lost a lot of friends to violence, drugs overdose, car accidents and some where locked up in the penitentiaries. The life that started as a game ended up in lots of pain and shame. He had to pay a dear price for the lifestyle that he chose. The pressure grew stronger and stronger that suicidal thoughts run through his mind. Life had no longer meaning.
At this desperate point in his life, he remember the words of his mother about the God, who loved him and could give him hope and a prosperous future. Immediately he broked up with his old lifestyle and started a new life as a christian. From this point on he dedicated his talents and music to bringing hope and a positive message to every body who will ever hear his voice.
Gleam Joel moved to Switzerland in 2001. He graduated with a degree in theology, youth work, contemporary music (song writing, stage performances) and theater. Gleam Joel later worked as a music director in the red light district of Zurich under a social prize winner project called EMK NETZ4. He built a rap school where young people could come and learn how to rap and perform in a monthly youth event. This project received a national recognition for its work among the troubled Swiss kids and non integrated foreigners. Gleam Joel is involved in social projects in and out of the country. Presently he is directing the Gleam center (a cultural center ) with a recording facility, talent school and the GLEAM Living church. In the GLEAM Center future leaders are developed, raised up and send forth to positively impact and change their environment, through their talents and gifts. He is also directing a national school project against violence, drug and alcohol abuse, sexual abuse, racism and integration of foreign youth.
Besides these he is also working on his musical career. In 2002, he released two single CDs Second Chance and God speaks, which sold well both in Switzerland and in the neighboring countries.
In the spring of 2004, he began to work with the chart producer Sergio Fertitta (Snoop Dogg; Coolio) on his first album Deeper. He released the album at the end of the same year. The response to this album has been, and is, so great. In the album he has a song called „feel the pain“. In this song, Gleam Joel talks about the loss of his father. Sergio, who is also featured in the song, lost his mother in the same period of time. This song is not only a lamentation song but a song which offer hope. It is dedicated to everybody who lost some one they love. A video clip was produced for this song. The clip has been often shown in TV channels both in Switzerland and Germany (VIVA, MTV, SF DRS etc.). Gleam Joel wrote all the lyrics in these CD productions.
During the year 2004, he performed as pre-artist for Black Eyed Peas and D12 (Group of Eminem) and he made interviews with Kanye West, Wutang Clan and many others.
He rapped for the project Vision for Switzerland, in attendance was the President of the Swiss Confederation, Mr. Joseph Deiss and many other politicians, ambassadors and leaders of different organizations. The main topic of the evening was Immigration.
Gleam Joel featured in DJ El Dragon and Jomar and got into the top 50s Swiss Charts with the title Pure. The music video has been shown in different music TVs in Switzerland (VIVA and MTV). At the End of 2004, he featured in Murmi dance, a single CD released by Universal Music. Murmi (www.murmi.ch) is a very popular TV program for children. Gleam Joel had his first experience with a TV-Advertisement for the famous Swiss cheese Appenzeller, which was shown in the music channel VIVA Swiss, VIVA Germany, and MTV Germany. Many articles have been written about Gleam Joel in the news papers and magazines.
During the following years he has performed in hundreds of concerts in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Norway, Brazil and the USA.
In 2007 he released his self produced and very personal album „the call“. He also produced a video clip for the single „Life is Short“. Radio stations worldwide played the song and again, the video has been shown many times on TV channels like SF DRS, VIVA and MTV.
In 2008 Gleam Joel is starting with a new video clip for „Life is Short Remix“ (produced by Sergio Feritta), a new show with professional live band, dance crew and top background singers (Lori Glori, ex singer of DJ BOBO on hits like „Pray“, „Shadows of the night“, „Respect yourself“ and many others). He is determined and will not stop till he has touched and reach out with his music, message and life to millions of people. His music will and should reach more people.
