Pioneer and perfector of the legendary dance styles strutting and the Fillmore, Fayzo brings meaning to the words, power and accuracy. With performances from stage to television and a variety of dance competitions and performances, Fayzo has created a dance portfolio that exhibits a wide variety of expertise and a history which displays dedication and longevity. As Director/Chief choreographer, original member of Demon of the Mind, and founding member of Medea Sirkas this creative and meticulous dancer, a native of San Francisco, California’s Fillmore District, aspires to continue a legacy which allows the world to envision and discover the intricacies and historical aspects of the art form he defines as strutting and the Fillmore dance style.
As a youth inspired by science fiction movies, Fayzo began to adapt the cool futuristic movement to music, eventually incorporating synchronicity. Later as a performer he magnified his precision, encouraged by the overwhelming response of his audience to the clean mechanical perfection of his choreography. Inspired also by an upbringing that embodied encouragement, supportiveness and perseverance combined with his love of the art form, Fayzo incorporated his creativity along with his desire to explore different activities into an avenue to express his passion for the dance. His first performance occurred at his neighborhood church in 1972. Since then, Fayzo has delved into costume concepts and designs, the production and creation of original Medea Sirkas music, and reinventing concepts all in an effort to keep Medea Sirkas new and fresh. Motivated by the rigors of competition, Fayzo’s affinity for precision keeps Medea Sirkas on its toes maintaining the group’s ability to remain cutting edge. Both a confident and private individual Fayzo effectively manages between the pressures of performing and keeping his professional and personal life separate. Balancing the challenges of battling between business and artistry, Fayzo demonstrates his strength and exactitude as he guides and directs both the creative development and the entertainment business of Medea Sirkas with precise professionalism. Juggling the needs of the group, the limited time available to maintain his exceptional skills, and the responsibilities of the business, requires phenomenal energy in order to hone their creative skills and minimize distractions. Fayzo displays that his mental processes and decision making skills are as accurate as his uncanny innovative moves. A connoisseur of music, cars, art, food, and things of beauty, Fayzo demonstrates his passion for quality, exercising his attention to detail as well as a conservative and direct approach to the intricacies of living and performing. Loyal in his approach to all aspects of his life, he is dedicated to the care required to maintain what he considers his greatest gift – His ability to do what he does….still!!!!His solo style was inspired by dance innovators such as Charles Marshall (of Black Velvet) whose unreal/unnatural moves held him in awe at a time when he was still developing his dance style, Ben James (of Live Incorporated) who influenced his dance style in the early stages of his development, and Legrande Newman , to name a few. Groups which influenced his growth include Granny and Robotroid, Inc, Live Incorporated, and Close Encounters of the Funkiest Kind (whose concepts, intricate staging, and performances helped to sharpen and polish skills later used in the creation of Medea Sirkas), among many others. Also among the ranks of his inspiration are performance greats James Brown and Michael Jackson.For Fayzo, dance is the force for which he was intended. Without it life would be ordinary, a state in which he would never choose to be. His purpose precisely defined through the synchronization of his dance moves in a display of intense accuracy!!!!
