Hey, look it's Wilson!!!

There is no great genius without some touch of madness.

About Me

Wilson Ramos Jr. Made the choice to become an artist in the 3rd grade, Wilson stated on a road to learn how to draw and study art. On his way he found his love for comics in the 7th grade, and by the time he went to The High School of Art and Design he wanted to be a comic artist. While in collage and having already been collected comics for over 6 years, he started to work in a comic book shop, called Amazing Tales. There he met Gary Guzzo, the head of the promotions and convention department for Marvel comics. Gary saw something in Wilson that made him ideal for Marvel, and he brought Wilson in to be an intern. Under Guzzo’s supervision, Wilson helped with the developlment of posters, flyers and give-a-ways used for various conventions and trade shows. Their office became the main source of news from Marvel Comics, all magazine and webzines; Wizard, Comic buyers guide, HERO, and all other comic “news” magazine, got their information from them. He had created the cover design for the Generation-X Promotional preview book, and participated with the launch of the first Marvel internet comics “Generation-X and Ghost Rider 2099”, he created the poster for Wizard’s Magazine Hulk A.I.D.S. Special, and the Alex Ross “Four Color Museum” poster. He was also the Assistant editor for the 1995 Business Plan. After the internship Wilson become the head of the Art Returns department where he not only operated the department but the bound book room as well. He re-organized both departments and created and managed the systems to track the original artwork. He found and returned to artist missing or lost artwork, some dated back to 1956! He had processed and returned over 90,000 pages of original artwork, and updated the bound book room (Marvel’s main and only library) cataloged over 50, 000 comic books. He also helped interview various candidates for the internship program and was a provincial stop on the once popular Marvel tour. While he was in Art Returns, Wilson had to play the part of a detective. He tracked down the artist or family member of artist who had passed on. In some cases he found artists who had stopped working for Marvel for over 30 years. He helped with the capture of the “Marvel Art Theft” and had returned the missing artwork to both Marvel and DC comics. During the major layoffs cause by the bankruptcy of Marvel, Wilson was one of the fellow worker who try to keep “normalcy” in the company, by talking over the Marvel Bundles, he made sure that the worker and freelancers would received their weekly set of comic books, on average he process and delivered over 2000 Marvel and DC comics weekly with in the company. Also at the time Wilson worked as a Colorist on such titles as Wolverine, Deadpool, Thor, Spider-woman, The Juggernaut, Ghost Rider 2099, X-Men and many more. After Marvel moved to their new offices, Wilson was promoted to Manger of the Digital Archives Department and oversaw the day-to-day activities of three departments. (Art Returns, Bound book room and Digital Archives) He managed the creation and development of the Marvel Dam (the companies’ main digital archives database) accessible on the Internet. Participated in the planning sage of the site, and helped to determine content features and creating the site’s information structure. He developed the graphic look and visual interface, as well as coordinated the technical development and implementation of the site. With the site up and running he maintain the data found on the site. He created and managed digital files used for reprints of the all the trade paperback books as well as reprints comic book in various languages and countries. He created the digital files that had been used for the DVD version of the Marvel Movies. (Spider-man, Daredevil, The Hulk and X-Men) All Digital files pertaining to Marvel’s properties went through or was created by Wilson’s offices. In January 2004 (a day before his 33rd Birthday), Wilson was “Down Size”. He was told that his job was now “redundant”. (Although there is still artwork to be process and return, and books to be bound and books to be archives) Although he misses the job, its now behind him and is busy working as successful freelance artist. Using his knowledge of being with Marvel for 10 years he Pencils, Inks, colors, and letters. He is also a major Consultant/Art Director to Committed Comics and has brought in two of their books Java and Neo Dawn (which has been one of previews top 300 books He has already lettered over 5400 pages of Manga for companies such as Central park Media, Media Blasters and CMX for DC comics and is still working strong. He has worked on such popular titles as Alien Nine, Hard Boiled Angel, Empty Empire and many more. He also still colors and works on many comic books published today, some of those titles include “7days to fame” and “Zoom suit” and “The Mercury Chronicles.” He is also the creator, artist and co-writer of “Team Kaiju” a new action adventure comic book coming from Section 8 Comics in 2006, and has many more books in production. He is happy to say that he still gets calls from Artist who are unhappy that he is no longer at Marvel as well as Marvel employees who also miss him.
