I play mainly finger picking 5 string banjo in no particular style, I just like to develop my own way that suits whatever song is being played. I also play a bit of acoustic guitar, mandolin, lap steel, appalachian dulcimer etc etc. I'm currently putting all of these into a new project with James Bradley (vocals and harmonica) and Katy Windsor (sax) plus keys, drums, trumpet, fiddle, bass and who knows what else that will be fun, theatrical and very, very different - www.foulplay.moonfruit.com
Some of the other bands I play or have played in recently - Deep Water are an acoustic folky/country/popsy trio; The Mighty Cowpats are an underground heavy metal cowpunk band, we only ever know which first three songs we're going to play, after that it's mayhem but usually seems to work - we're developing Human Buckaroo as a feature of the act.Until Black Friday I had a spell in The Trouser Trumpets - a 10/11 piece band playing the music of Bonzo Dog, Spike Jones and all things adjacent. Big Muddy Bluegrass were fronted by Canadian Bob Hamm and often with Canadian Paul Clifford, ex Be Good Tanyas, on drums; and Loose Change a Canterbury based folk/country expandable-duo - Off the Fiddle is an original by Ray Fielder of Loose Change.
Annnnd (it's hard to remember it all at my age!) studio session banjo player on The Fat River Band's CD The Last Great Guitar Heist - and I took most of the pics for their first CD, my other passion and day job; a spell in a folk/ska band called originally enough Folkska which included playing at the last of the legendary Gustonbury Festivals, and a couple of years long ago in folky groups Fuzz and Toby Jug, highlight of which was playing support to Midland folk rockers Decameron
