About Me
Dramatico Entertainment is a management company and record label dedicated to the projects created and/or managed by songwriter, conductor and general all-round impressario sort of bloke, Mike Batt.
These projects cover a wide range of styles, and yet our abiding driving force is A&R, - that mystical combination of Artist and Repertoire. In other words, WHO sings the songs and WHICH songs they sing.
Dramatico achieved its first resounding success in late 2003 and the year 2004 with the phenomenonal 18 year old (now 21) singer from the former USSR,- Katie Melua. Although she had never even been ON an airplay chart in the UK (never mind topping one) - Katie has gone from strength to strength with her album "Call Off The Search".
She was signed to Dramatico when no major company wanted to sign her, except one who offered her a huge amount of money, but wanted to change and control her musical direction. Katie decided instead to get Dramatico to release her album, and at the time of writing has sold 1.8 million albums (6 times Platinum) in the UK - and 3 million internationally.
Katie's second album, "Piece By Piece" has surpassed all our own expectations. It was released simultaneously throughout Europe and South Africa, went straight to number one in the UK and to 1,2 or 3 in pretty well all the other territories where it has been released. At time of writing this note the album has sold in the first 7 months more copies than "Call Off The Search" did altogether. Katie has now achieved the accolade of being the biggest selling female artist in the UK for two years running.
All Dramatico's releases are available via legal web download as well as physical CD and some on vinyl. All Mike's own solo albums are now available on Dramatico having been licensed back from CBS (Epic). Currently only available on download, they will be issued on CD gradually over the next year, in double packs each containing two albums.
Our second signing, Robert Meadmore had his debut album, "After A Dream" released on Dramatico on 28th February 2005 and it went straight to number two on the UK Classical charts. It was strongly supported by Classic FM. Robert toured the UK extensively and the album was recently nominated for "Best Classical Album" in the Classical BRIT Awards, 2006.
Robert is a Guildhall School Of Music trained baritone, who despite being concerned more with musical theatre in his life to date, has a great feel for, and affinity with classical material. The result is a perfectly blended set of songs and arias which Robert's voice - accompanied only by a 25 piece string orchestra - brings to life in a stunning performance of great sensitivity and strength.
Keep checking in for updates on Katie, Robert, Mike and our imminent new signing! Thanks for joining us!
