About Me

Disintegration is a beautiful thing sometimes. It often gives you the opportunity to offer up some sort of insight that you wouldn’t necessarily have been able to provide with out it. It gives you a chance to reevaluate what the original purpose for beginning really was. From the ashes comes rebirth. "Its impossible to try to explain what we went through as a band," admits Nick Talley (Drummer) "We were so focused on breaking the mold we originally set for ourselves that we lost sight of the very core of what Playing for Keeps meant. We needed to take a step back, remove the rose tinted glasses and determine what was really important, but for some reason we couldn't fill the void that was left after this whole thing died."
Its hard to say, with any amount of certainty what makes a band successful, and what makes a band flounder. If it were as easy as killer chops and Catchy Hooks, don't you think the goons in record town would have the formula down by now? Whatever the real answer may be, there is no denying that there has to be this undeniable pinch of desperation that comes with sleeping in dirty vans and playing in empty bars. Its this drive, to do something worthwhile, to step out of the grime and owning it, that forces the members of Playing for Keeps to pick up the pieces and continue regardless of what people might say. "It gives meaning to our daily routine, which more than not, we spend our days fighting...And if that means driving across the country and playing shows, then so be it" admits Justin. What originally started off as a fun idea turned into a necessity for living... like eating, or breathing. And its apparent in every song. "It’s the aspiration to write a record that will genuinely move people, force them to think and make a connection that we hope to drive home in every line of every song." Says Zach Ellenberger (Singer/Guitarist). This Island Earth
