About Me

Ember Schrag showed up, 17 and with a 7-song repertoire, at the Magic Bean in Springfield, Missouri, for a Wednesday open mic. "We need more chicks around here," said the owner, who looked sort of like Bob Dylan only smaller and in a paisley shirt. "Want to play once a week?" Playing to a loyal crowd of six, Ember came up with a new song a week so they wouldn't get bored, and a fecund songwriter with a belief that it's fun to play for your friends was born.
A little later Ember moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she got an English degree and a duo partner guitarist Günter Voelker. For the last three years she/they have been playing about three shows a month with the philosophy that if someone asks them to play they'll do their best to say yes. They've perf6r0ed with The Bowmans , Lowry , Ali Harter , Another Holiday , and Samantha Crain .
By now Ember has written over fifty songs and is currently writing the music for a play, a Shakespeare-spinoff called Nick's Dream. Writing for the play has involved taking psychedelic magic-flower-powder liberties with the forest scenes in A Midsummer Night's Dream: see "Cupid's Bloom." Right now she is finishing up a slow-burning recording project, and writing hip hop songs about pajamas for her new baby.

Ember Schrag is Not Dead
