MeccaCentric began rapping and deejaying over twenty years ago in his home town of Jackson, Mississippi. He was one of several local artists chosen by B-Boy Records to perform at the infamous Valentines Day concert in 1988.
His group won 'Best New Artist' and 'Best Rap Record' at the 1989 Jackson Music Awards. He has opened for such acts as: Boogie Down Productions, Jodeci, Rob Base, Redhead Kingpin, Young and Restless, 2 Live Crew, Too Short and Sinbad as well as other artists. He was part of the underground hip-hop crew 'Mental State of Mind' in the early nineties when he began a study of comparative religion.
In 1999 he embraced Islam and began studying tassawuf. He is a student of Shaykh Harun Faye, a Mustafawiyya sufi master, from Senegal.
MeccaCentric lives in Durham, North Carolina with his wife Khadijah and son Muhammad Adam Irfan.
