Born December 28th, 1983... The performer was nourished from the early infant years when Dad set lil Shababy up in front of a tripod mounted camcorder...connected to a tv screen... which inevidably provided for HOURS of entertainment, and came to be known as my regular babysitter. Then there was the Michael Jackson jumping couch... designated specifically for the activity that was ellicited from the king of pop... Shababy could just never stop movin.
Always finding herself drawn to the arts (musicals, drama festivals + comp's, public speaking, choir, orchestra) .. creative expression kept her heart beating throughout highscool (would not go back if somebody paid me!). Writing poetry since the age of 8 and composing music from the age of 11, this songstress found her true sanctuary in music. By teenagehood, she started taking to stages spontaneously at private parties, where she found her passion for freestyle flow.
Growing up around the world, she spend her first 5 years in Kuwait. Then escaped the Gulf War by a few months..to move to Montreal. After 3 years she returned to the Middle East to an island off the coast of Saudi Arabia called Bahrain. Island living gave her a true sense of community and compassion with such a small population to draw from... and also attributed to her chilled sense of time (much like the Malibu commercial). Graduating from highschool at 16, she left to Canada for university in Winnipeg, Manitoba (BRRRrrrr!) where she soon learned the significance of thermal underwear. Then bounced to Toronto and Montreal for a few years to pursue studies in Homeopathic Medicine and Holistic Nutrition. Finishing up her studies, she made a lifestyle move to Kelowna (a googled search for the warmest climate in Canada) to set up her natural health clinic.
Moving to Kelowna, she began to re-emerse herself into the music scene. She met drum guru Trevour Salloum with afro-cuban percussion lessons and soon became a session percussionist/vocalist for his latin jazz band trio Major Mambo. Rediscovering her need for musical expression, she found herself at open mic night at The Grateful Fed, and as her spontaneous Shababy self & conscious appeal.. freestyled a tune with buddy Jay Hollman on guitar...and recieved so much love from the audience.
Weeks later she met MC Special S and soon began collaborating with him and friend dj Thistle. They immediately began composing and performing music under the alias "Muzik & MediZen" - promoting "Zen"-state consciousness with "Medi"tative lyrics. After only 3 months ,they were invited to perform at Mayfest opening up for Candian legendary rock band 5440.. among many other talented musicians.
She draws her influences from many cultural diversities. Her ethnic background is coloured with shades of Syria, Germany, France, and Canada. Shababy also plays the Tablah (middle eastern dumbek), Piano, and Flute.
Shababy continues to live her life in the present moment, focusing her energy towards the quest of conscious medicine, conscious music, and conscious lifestyle.
