Hi,
My name is Ninette Murk and I'm founder/director of 'Designers against Aids', a charity fashion brand with the aim to raise aids awareness among young (and young at heart) people in the industrialised world. Together with creative director Javier Barcala we work on all our projects. We ask fashion designers such as Playboy Design, Bernhard Willhelm, Rogan Gregory, Calvin Klein and Katharine Hamnett, musicians such as Scissor Sisters, The Cure, Faithless, The Cardigans, Chicks on Speed, Peaches and Miss Kittin and other contemporary artists to create a print for a T-shirt and we sell those in stores all over the world; the net proceeds of these sales are used for aids education projects. All t-shirts are manufactured Fair Trade and made of certified organic cotton. Very important is the media attention we get (yes, there ARE good ways to 'use' celebrities;-): this way a lot more people get to hear about us than just fashion lovers who happen to see our T-shirts somewhere. After all, we'd rather have people use their money to buy protection against HIV than spend it on fashion items- not very commercial, but in our case, the truth and nothing but the truth. The core of DAA is our website, which is why we print the url on all the items we produce.
