Index7 LAUNCHES THE DEFINITIVE 7" SINGLE NEWS RESOURCE
7" SINGLE POPULARITY CONFIRMED BY DEDICATED ONLINE SERVICE
London, March 6 2007 - London based company Index7 has announced the launch of the first online service dedicated to providing upfront information about forthcoming 7" vinyl single releases.
The 7" single has undergone a huge revival in recent years and this resurgence of interest, in what was once thought to be a dying format, now sees it account for up to 15% of physical single sales. Many record companies also value the promotional power of the 7" single highly with more and more frontline physical releases coming out on this very collectable and chart-eligible format.
As most 7" singles tend to be limited editions (to enhance their collectability) and often sell out on pre-orders alone it can be extremely difficult to find out information on new releases. Index7, which can be found at www.Index7.co.uk, will offer a definitive news and information resource for the 7" single format and will provide a valuable, free platform for record labels to promote their new 7" single releases.
Index7 founder Nick Levine said, "I started Index7 out of frustration more than anything. I've always collected 7" singles but was getting very irritated at the lack of information available to people like me who wanted to buy them. I spoke to a lot of record companies and received very positive feedback about starting a dedicated 7" single resource, so Index7 was born. It is a very easy platform to navigate and use and we already have over 30 labels signed up including the likes of Moshi Moshi, White Heat, City Rockers, Loog and Transgressive among others with more joining every day."
At present Index7 does not offer online sales as Nick Levine feels that for the time being the website should concentrate on providing news and information. Index7 also believes strongly in supporting the last 50 or so independent record shops left in the UK and will provide links and information about independent record shops where 7" singles can be purchased.
Nick Levine says, "We tell people where they can go to buy the records and list all the key independent shops that stock 7" releases but our job is not, at this stage, to be an online shop. We are primarily a news and information resource and we want to concentrate on that part of our business before considering introducing any commercial sales facilities."
Nadia Dahlawi from Young And Lost Club, one of the record labels that have already signed up to Index7 said, "The Index7 online resource is really good news for both record labels and record buyers. We have found it extremely easy to post details of our forthcoming releases on the site and I'm sure that Index7 will become a key news destination and promotional platform for the 7" single in the near future."
Sean Wattyler, the Senior Singles Buyer at Rough Trade Retail said, "We have noticed a growing demand for 7" singles in the last couple of years and a great site like Index7, which keeps people informed of forthcoming releases and where to buy them, can only be a good thing."
