UNIVERSAL POPLAB began life on a dull January day in 2002 when vocalist Christer Lundberg and producer Paul Lachenardière shook hands over a couple of beers and a vegetarian meal, agreeing on plans to create a shimmering spectacle of synthpop art.
February 2004 marked the release of their self-titled debut album. Several singles from it such as "New Baby Boom", "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful" and "Dice Roller" - achieved chart success.
With the addition of new member, sound magician Hans Olsson, the band finished their second album "UPRISING", released on 29th November 2006.
Live, the band is a riot! Universal Poplab made their live debut in 2003 at the Scandinavian Alternative Music Awards, (where, two years later, they won the award for best album). UP’s dedicated following has been growing ever since.
The single releases from â€UPRISINGâ€: "I Could Say Im Sorry", "Heart Apart" and "Fire" demonstrate the band's growing achievements and ability to permeate our heads and hearts with their insanely catchy melodies. Even a glance at their lyrics makes it clear that this is more than just a â€pretty boy†pop band…
The band recently finished working on the third UP album, â€SEEDSâ€, due for release in May 2008. "Fame & Hate", the first single from the new album, was released on February 6th.
Universal Poplab may not be competing for the title of coolest band on earth, but they definitely have something to say. Above all, they know how to create great electronic pop music. So I’m waiting with great excitement for their new â€SEEDS†to be sown across the world!
The only way is UP!
