If You brought me here to dance, make me dance, make me dance... like a puppet in Your hands

About Me

Happy Kartika and Yay for my new Nalinaksi Radha! Welcome to the profile of an aspiring Brajabasi. Braja, where every step is a dance and every word a song... my only hope for attaining residence there lies in the mercy of my Nitai's lotus feet. ***********************************************************
Somehow, we are living in Govardhana, a place considered superior even to Vaikuntha. Such good fortune can only be attributed to the mercy of Guru and the Vaishnavas. Thank you, dear Vaishnavas, for being merciful to us pathetically fallen souls. The Guru's 'torchlight of knowledge' is slowly opening my eyes to reality. And reality is beautiful. I am a servant of the servant of Lord Nityananda. And I beg to remain as such. It is a place of such joy, peace and wonderment. I need more mercy!****************************************************** *****
History:
I grew up in Detroit, Michigan under the loving care of Radha Kunjabihari at the Devasadana Mandira. At twelve, our family moved to the New Goloka Community in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Radha Golokananda have been truly kind. With Their mercy, I spent many glorious years in my parents' gurukula until graduation at age sixteen. I'm so grateful to my parents who sacrificed their home and life so that I and so many other children like me could attend a fun, challenging, dynamic, Krsna-saturated school. I especially loved High school. I'm also extremely thankful to my many dear friends because of whom my determination to perfect myself in this life was solidified during my teenage years.
After graduation in 1995, I began helping my mother with the teaching. I had always wanted to teach, but more than anything, I was waiting for that knight in shining armor to swoop me off my feet and fly off with me into the sunset. And he didn't waste any time. :o) I met my dear husband, Mayapurcandra, in March of 1997 and in May of that same year we were married! Let me tell you, ladies, happy marriages aren't just the stuff of fairy tales. For both of us, the magic has worked and is still acting by the power of the Holy Name.
Our beloved Gurudeva, Bir Krsna Goswami, accepted us as disciples in March of 1998. And our dear daughter, Padmavati, was born in July of 1998. With baby in tow, I managed to work up to my Bharata Natyam Arangetram (dance debut) in August 2002. For many years, life consisted of teaching in the gurukula, wifing, mothering and house care, teaching dance and organizing entertainment for the New Goloka festivals.
***********************************************************
Recently, Krsna put us in Govardhana, India. It's been a huge change, but a very happy one. Padma is thriving with home school. I'm enjoying cooking more than ever (homemade butter, yoghurt, buttermilk, sour cream and kefir are so much fun!). And making jewelry for my Gaura-Nitai has never been so exhilirating.

My Interests

My hubby, my baby, my Gaura-Nitai, Bharata Natyam dance, Home schooling, cooking, jewelry making, sewing, cleaning, laughing, smiling, and... chatting with friends!!!

I'd like to meet:

Friends

Music:

Bhajans and Kirtans... Srila Prabhupada, Bir Krsna Goswami, Indradyumna Swami, Ramya devi, Pia, Krishna Premi and anyone else who identifies themselves as servant of our beloved Srila Prabhupada.I'm also a lover of authentic Carnatic style music... anything related to DANCE!!!

Movies:

Sita's Wedding was my favorite as a kid (and still is). :o) I also love Meera, Tukarama, Nimai of Nadia and Nilacala Mahaprabhu. I think I could count on two hands the number of other movies I've seen. My experience has been that they agitate more than inspire. So I'm afraid I can't really give much of list here.

Television:

We actually don't have a TV. And anyway, Govardhana television isn't exactly appealing. Oh, and I really don't need another time waster. :P

Books:

"What's the Difficulty?" by Srutakirti dasa (highly recommended!!!) and "Simple for the Simple" (hmmm... those two titles actually share something in common :o)

Heroes:

I am in awe of anyone who has chosen to make good use of this human form of life. People who have determined to renew, cultivate and expand their inherent love for Krishna to whatever extent they are able… they are my heroes. The list would span several volumes. These people have made an impact on my life since my wee baby years and these days I meet many many such people on a daily basis here in the Dhama. I get to interact with a couple of them 24/7 since I live with them. (Thank you, dearest hubby and baby!) If I were to write a list, naturally, Srila Prabhupada would top it. He is literally my ‘prana-jivana’ (live-giver). Besides him (and the hubby and baby :o) there are my countless other gurus – my diksha guru, Bir Krsna Goswami, the many senior Vaishnavas who are the life-lines of our movement, my parents, god-uncles and aunts, friends, Acaryas of our sampradaya… The list continues perpetually. Heck, even our maid, Haridasi, would find a respected position. To all of you great souls, I offer my humble obeisances and beg for your mercy.
