It all started back in 1999 with a man we call balanceman. He got together with Dj Darkat at the now-defunct Vulcanradio.com and they started arranging beats and samples together. Tweaktech and myself, Doc oliver joined in on the fun, and we started making a lot of noise, quite frequently. Sort of like the Beastie Boys and Negativeland had a head on collision while on tour, and the result was catfive. With the help of Balanceman and lcoal bay area record label HipHopSlam, we produced Kataphonics, our first Full length Cd Release. It blew up locally, and got a little airplay across the country, rockin the college stations for a few weeks. the media wanted to write stories about us, and we were having a great ol time. the songs progressed from disjointed chaos into a sort of listenable background hum, kind of like what one would experience after ingesting several doses of LSD and not sleeping for 3 days. balanceman introduced us to another local cat, formerly known as Earflaps, a criss cross dj scratch master from oakland, who added another layer of dimentia to the mix. (he still likes childrens records). Balanceman left the group in 2001, shortly after the release of Kataphonics to pursue a solo career and further his knowledge of the world. We pressed on, and said we can do this ourselves. So we scrimped and saved every penny from shows and started producing our own records. We have released 4 so far: American Military operations,(7" red clear vinyl), On the Rise, a 12" EP, and a Dj darkat Solo record, Omnia Ab uno, plus Earflaps did a split 12" with another local Cat Edaboss, and rocked some bhangra and old school trax.
Now we have our current release Big Brother runs the Company, a full length Cd availalbe for free at katfive.com , and we're working on a full length DVD video project, which we hope to release in the next few months.7 years has pretty mcuh flown by, and we're ready for a few more!
