Influences: I was very influenced by the music of many artists and many bands, and still am. Thankfully. The list is as varied as my music collection. The very first record I ever owned was "The Breaks" by Kurtis Blow. My first hard rock albums were "Screaming for Vengeance" by Judas Priest, "Mob Rules" by Black Sabbath and "For Those About To Rock" by AC/DC. Before that, which was around 1981/82, I was an avid listener of Top 40 Am RAdio (WNBC, before it was talk).
So much music has touched my life at one time or another and led me in different directions. The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Juan Luis Guerra, Motown, Metallica, Billy Joel, Andres Calamaro, Camilo Sesto, Judas Priest, Silvio Rodriguez, Pablo Milanes,... in the late 80's before forming Toque Profundo, I was very influenced by spanish artists being played on the radio in Santo Domingo, like Los Inhumanos, Los Toreros Muertos, Mecano, Joaquin Sabina and these in turn made write in spanish. At the same time I was heavily into the work of a Dominican writer named Huchi Lora through the recording of his lyrics by the great merenguero Johnny Ventura. It's all there somewhere, Milly y Los Vecinos, Julio Iglesias, ABBA, The Carpenters... I guess it's the advantage of growing up between NYC and Santo Domingo.
Right now my ipod has Tom Waits, System of a Down, Gustavo Cerati, Vicentico, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Soziedad Alkoholika,...
